Stardew Valley 1.6 Will CHANGE Gaming FOREVER

If you’ve NEVER played Stardew Valley, now is the perfect time to do so. From developer Concerned Ape, this farming sim got a MAJOR update in late March. Concerned Ape has also teased us with content for a new project called HAUNTED CHOCOLATIER, but he paused its development to properly finish the 1.6 update

I will never stop talking about my endless respect for CA and the way he's handled releasing this game. He's given us at least 2 huge updates for free that could have easily been paid DLC and no one would have batted an eye, and the game has consistently been like 15 dollars on steam, so it's super affordable. I understand most games are way more expensive to make, but Stardew could easily be more than twice the price and we'd all think it's normal. I think 1.6 even came out while the game was on sale. He's involved with and listens to his community, he's actively made the game easier to mod. I just want to violently shake a lot of other developers, point at CA and tell them 'this. This is what you should be doing'.

The mystery boxes are 100% a play on loot boxes. CA clearly did that to scratch that itch without paying but also to add more randomness to the game, plus giving him a way to make VERY rare items more accessible without making them no longer rare.
Take the auto petter.
You would have to first have really high luck stat, then roll a treasure room in SC, then get the roll of the auto petter which has miniscule odds of showing up.
I've had runs where I've been 2-300 floors down and only had one treasure room spawn.
Now I can just grind hundreds of mystery boxes through normal gameplay lol.

I don't understand why we need Clint to open the mystery boxes. It's just a box, surely a letter opener would be enough, you shouldn't need to hit it with a hammer.

It's odd to me not more people mentioned CA to people during the Baldur Gate's 3/Blizzard/Activision/Ubisoft drama because he sure has been doing right by his community for a long time and should be considered as a role model in the history books on game design for how to do updates after release.

At this point, Concerned Ape probably just wonders what other cool shit he can add to his game for free while he rolls around in his money silo.

It's just incredible how much he appreciates the community.

Personally i like how almost every method of making money is competitive now. I was working on a fish pond/dinosaur farm before 1.6 was released and lo and behold, MASSIVE buffs to my build. As to many others, so no more having to just make wine.

I’ve played this game from time to time with my friends on Xbox but never fully got immersed due to them playing without me this cause me to miss things, the 1.6 update interested me enough to create my own save on steam with mods and I’ve been loving it so far

Wow. It's always nice to hear someone else talk about how cancerous loot boxes are without holding back. Well done. Oh! And there's also the fear-of-missing-out psychological manipulation that gets a lot of people when the potential items are time restricted.

With regards to the Mystery Boxes in SV, once I got the book from whichever type it was, I just started collecting them in the dump-chest near the door the same way as I do with geodes.

The regular Mystery Boxes are so underwhelming that I can't be bothered and the Golden Mystery Boxes are too late-game for the rewards to be worth it for me.
