A group of volunteer animal rescuers are coming together to save the life of a badly abused bird named Grecia.

No one knows how or why someone cut off the beak of this toucan, but the bird arrived at the Zoo Ave Rescue Center in San Jose missing most of it's top beak. Without it, Grecia isn't able to feed or groom itself.

A dedicated team has committed themselves to the bird's well-being. While caregivers made sure Grecia was cared for, 3-D printing engineers designed a lightweight beak for the toucan. The beak is made of a bio-compatible nylon material that's also used in airplanes.

Doctors reconstructed Grecia's new beak to help it begin its new life. Animal experts don't believe it'll be able to live on its own in the wild, but they believe the toucan will once again be able to feed and groom itself. Watch more of Grecia’s incredible journey on Toucan Nation on Animal Planet on August 24th.
