Growing up with protection dogs was one of the best decisions my parents ever made. They often share stories about our German Shepherd, Lola, who was always by my side. One memorable story: when I was 4 or 5, we were at a park, and my dad briefly went to the car. In those two minutes, Lola went crazy. My dad rushed back to find her on top of a man with a warrant for a crime against a minor. He had been watching us, taking advantage of the moment my dad stepped away and my mom watched my newborn brother. Even in a small, affluent park, no one could have predicted this.

People have opinions on the safety of trained animals, often based on misinformation. Accidents can happen, of course. As a 22-year-old woman away for college, my two Malinois girls, Moana and Luna, keep me safe. They've almost attacked my stupid drunk friends who thought it would be fun to "test" their protective instincts. That's why constant training and reliable commands are crucial. But end of the day my girls are the most cuddly, loving. Just don’t fuk around and find out what they can do if you don’t listen to me when I say stop.

You wouldn't be holding the lead in a real scenario. The dog should be let to run, jump and grip the attackers arm. Its like the dog hasn't been taught how to protect in a real scenario. You wont have time to put a lead on the dog and hold the dog back. It should bark and stay protecting you and when you say a certain command it should run at the attacker. Seems like its not been trained properly
