I wished my first video was this good, well done.

This was excellent, thank you. A worthy addition to the growing library of S400 reviews on YouTube, but different from others.

I wanted to post an update as I continue to roll these in and out of my setup. I am using them for part of my Klipsch Forte III review.

Many people have said these speakers love power, myself included, and that is true. However, I was listening to them powered by a single Schiit Aegir last night and man the combo sounded really good! That amp is only 40wpc into 4 Ohms!

So maybe you don’t need TONS of power as long as it’s a GOOD amplifier.

For a new video, this was great material. It's chill, laid back, informative and real. Cheers man!

Great review man, you hit on a lot of points I was interested in, loved it! Great comparisons as well, right on the money!

Love the way you explain in a simple way about the difference in mid range "body" and chestiness between a normal bookshelf vs a tower speaker. The lack of "body" is the single reason I never get a long with bookshelfs. I like the precision and fastness of a bookshelf, so without the lack of body, this S400 sounds like the perfect speaker for me :-)

They’re so good. I am running them with a pair of monoblock Vidars and two Rel subs. A Gungnir Multibit DAC and Freya preamp. All XLR. It’s amazing.

Great job! I’ve had the S400’s for 6 months and love them. Two points- They take a long time to break in! Continues to improve over months. Also good solid stands are essential. I’m using the Audio Advisor metal stands. Enjoy and thanks again!

I love my S400s.Mine are paired with a Chord Mojo DAC and an Atoll IN200 Signature. Its a very naturally euphonic sound system.

Interesting you bring up the spouse acceptance factor.

Right now I have bookshelves, for a while I was thinking of adding a sub but the girl friend doesn't like the idea of more boxes and visible cords in the living room. So really looking at it with her, going through speakers she actually like the idea of 2 towers (especially over bookshelves, stands and subs).

It sounds like these can hang as a 2 channel listening system, but I don't know I already convinced her on towers I might as well go all out.

Thinking of buying this speaker, thank you for the explanation of the sound. I agree with you that many speakers need to not sound thin in the vocals and glad that this one does a great job. Looking forward to more videos.

I own the JBL Studio 530 (great design), and the Buchardt S400. They both sound about the same, with detail and timbral accuracy galore. Very 'lively' sounding, without being harsh or 'shouty'.

What a nice surprise to see this review. Thank you very much. Im very pleased to see that you talked about who this is for, size was an very important factor for us doing the design witch it seams that many that review them do not talk about. Now bigger floorstanders will be coming, still with the same philosophy in mind.

Thanks! Can we share this review to our Facebook followers?

Very nice review. I spoke with Mads, and he sent me a pair.... there everything you say, and maybe a little more. All the reviews I have seen... say about the same thing, and that's because they are a Top of the line Speaker, personally I just don't think your going to get anything more, than what the S400 offer (personal opinion). I've had tower & large studio monitors and I really don't think your missing much at all using the S400. I have the Infinity Reference Standard 1's, and the ADS L2030's, they take up a whole room and require a lots of power. I'm downsizing my system and I feel confident that I have found the wright speaker S400. Been doing Audio for more than 50 years and there comes a point where it so good that any so called improvement would be "meniscal" that it would be undetectable to my ears. Bottom line you don't need to brake the bank on Studio Monitors.... to get a High Quality Sound ! Also, consider that Mads Buchardt, stand behind his product, with a 10 WARRANTY, I'm sure that's a factor for your consideration. Grate review, I enjoy lessening to educated product reviews.

Great review and presentation, thanks for adding some of your thoughts that add information to the multiple reviews already out there. BTW, there’s been a delay in the next preordered shipment of these. Some will be coming in June, others in September. Mads offered a 200 euros discount if you waited, but it’s his decision on how many he will take up on that.

Nice review! I got a pair on order due sometime this month... Can’t wait to try them. Like you, they will be paired with an all Schiit system (just gone fully balanced).

Now in a much smaller room I'm forced into moving from the original Magnepans to something much smaller, these seem to fit the bill. Here in Colorado there is simply no place to listen to these or much of anything else for that matter, nobody has inventory, everything seems to be mail order. Long gone are the days when you could visit your local high end store and sample different products. Good job on your first video.

Excellent review, looking forward to coming efforts.Have a pair of the special editions coming any day now, a "bit" more money but i like the idea of having the option get a maxed out version so i don' t have to wonder "what if i upgraded this or that....?"Heard them at Stockholm High End and just loved them, going from floorstanding speakers in the 5000 dollar range to Buchardt in hope that my 3.7x5 meter livingroom will get a better quality bass and, from what i heard at the show, great vocals and midrange.

I wonder how these compare to the Elac Navis ARB-51 (active, so no amp required). Also the Revel M106.

Great review! There aren't many review of the S400 so it's great to hear another perspective.
I'm also thinking of jumping on the S400 train. Something that I didn't see from anyone is how these speakers handle Movies & TV. Not only Music. I'm a 50/50 guy. Both music & movies are important to me. I currently have old Paradigm studio reference 100 v.2 front speakers as part of a 5.1 Paradigm system . They are great for movies but I have them for so long a want to try something new. I have the option to keep the current system and also add the S400 only for music purpose (with a dedicated amp). Do you think it's better to add them as a separate entity or should I replace them with my current front speakers?
