I’m going to do this on my 2012 Ford Fiesta stock calipers. That has to be at least 30+ hp added.

Thank you for showing your not perfect 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Pro tip - Be sure to get all the brake fluid out. Even a tiny drop that escapes will wreck the paint job. Ask me how I know, lol. Also, I chose to bake my SRT Brembos to fully cure the paint. If you choose this, have fans ready.

Good technique 😅 and a color for sure 😂
Glad to see you still at it. Great series.

I like tutorials like this. It isn't textbook correct, but its a good baseline for sure

As someone who used to use a similar process and then eventually upgraded to a professional shop and equipment… Prep is everything. Obviously that’s not news to anyone but the one thing I always suggest to folks who are still rattle canning it… especially with anything that’s come in to contact with lubricants, and other contaminants from the road… The only way to truly degrease some thing to a laboratory level and get The most from any finishing project… You need to degrease like no other. The best way is an ultrasonic cleaner filled with your favorite parts cleaner or solvent. Yeah I know it’s dangerous or whatever but I haven’t had a problem in 15 years. Hopefully I don’t have one in the future lol
I studied metallurgy and UNI and even though I’m a dimwitted idiot I did learn about the pores in different types and Eloise… You really can’t clean the pores just by wiping it down a few times. Honestly it doesn’t always matter but ultrasonic and other methods make it easy and full proof. The technique in this video is great and his attention to detail is highly admirable.

I baked mine also in the oven. Came out smooth and shiny as fcuk.

That's the strangest shade of red I've ever seen

I just painted mine and they came out really good

Sanding the primer before painting will help the smooth

Ppl should know break cleaner will destroy any rubber it comes into contact with. Rubber gaskets where a strong solvent doesn't belong, essentially directly spraying. so plz keep that in mind. Also remember break cleaner is a very strong solvent so be mindful where you spray it.

Decent prep done on this job. Although, you really ought to just put the decals over the top of the lacquer, they don't need 'sealing in' as people say. They don't come off so long as you have bought decent ones, to be fair. Even the poor ones will probably last too, so long as the surface has been degreased and is totally dry.
We have refurbished getting close to 1, 000, 000 brake calipers and we have never had a customer tell us that a decal has fallen off. Most of the staff have their brakes done.
The best benefit is that you don't risk pulling off the basecoat when you're removing the clear applicator film. Also, if you trap air underneath the decal, then it won't expand underneath and crack the lacquer over time.
On the prep, if you're using rattle can primer, then finish the cast to 320, but go from 120 (if it's bad then 80), then 280, then 240, then 320. Once the primer is dry, check for imperfections as if you see any now, it'll be worse when the basecoat is on.

I just used VHT paint for the first time the other day. Love it

I used duplicolour on my extractors cover and it’s still fine the paint is insane

Hang the calipers on hooks instead of laying them down on a hard surface, you'll get a better coating.

I tried painting a new caliper I got off Amazon and the paint won’t stick at all. Will using this high heat primer work? I tried sanding but it didn’t help. Not sure what they treated the caliper with before but it’s like a very silver color almost like they spray painted it silver. Also I heard I will need an acidic primer does the high heat one qualify as this?

I've been waiting for the day I could actually use brake cleaner for its general
kramnull
How did the decal do with the heat from the brakes?
mericaman
what Dremel do you recommend for this job? I want to buy a heavy duty one
reeda.
My Evo 8 brembo brakes needed some of this. That bright red had some issues.
