SAP S/4 HANA 1909 - GROUP REPORTING: DATA MONITOR

1. Data monitor takes care of data preparation of steps of consolidation process
2. Data monitor represents consolidation units and consolidation groups, where local accountant can perform their activities. (point number 1 and 2 above)
3. In data monitor, you can see the consolidation units are grouped as per master data configuration and local reporting tasks are in column.
4. At the beginning of processing period, you can see consolidation units are set to green color. This represents, the period is not yet open for reporting purpose. Tasks are set to initial stage represented by black check mark. Once you execute a task the status is updated for the relevant organizational unit.
5. Before execution of a task in data monitor, you need to open the period for a consolidation unit or units by right click on consolidation unit(s).
6. Since the data monitor displays the organization hierarchy, you can run tasks by consolidation group or a unit.
7. As a rule, in data monitor, previous task should be locked, before running subsequent task. If run a task in update mode, without locking the previous task, the system will set the status as incomplete. This means that you must run the task again if you have blocked the preceding tasks. Only exception to this rule are manual task and JE.
8. In the configuration, you can design to lock a task on successful completion.
9. Application does not allow to execute a locked task in update mode. To re-execute / re-run a task, if the task is locked, then it should be unlocked.
10. If you select the “Run successive tasks” option, successive tasks will be expected in the order, until next milestone step.
11. Once the local accountant finalized the local data, the local accountant can lock the period and move the actual data to consolidation phase.
12. Normally, in a financial closing, business does the following activities
a. Opening / closing of a period.
b. Balance carry forward – This task is needed at the beginning of new fiscal year.
c. Release universal Journals
d. Data collection
e. Validation of Universal Journal
f. Calculation of net income
g. Reported data validation
h. Manual posting
i. Currency translation
j. Preparation consolidation of group change
k. Standardized data validation
