APJ Video Brief (#15) - Supernova SN2024GY Update

Early last year, supernova SN2024GY graced our skies in the Virgo Galaxy Cluster. It was found in the Silver Streak galaxy (NGC 4216). This month, nearly one year later, I imaged NGC 4216 again to compare with the previous image, confirming its disappearance. Using an 80mm-aperture refractor, I was surprised to observe some much improved resolution when employing AI Denoise software on this target. The revealed details resembled much higher resolution reference images.

Nicely done Paul! This took me back to when I observed and imaged the supernova in M101 (The Pinwheel Galaxy) a couple of summers ago, which was also discovered by Itagaki-san! It's an interesting experiment to do a comparison of a supernova as it shows up and as it fades, and I'm glad you had an opportunity! Keep up the great work, and I wish you all the best in 2025!
