Squat Supremacist Mike sounds diabolical

One thing I respect about Mike is that he’s not dogmatic about exercise or programming. He’s very willing to accept new information and adjust his beliefs based on that which I respect and it makes me trust him more.

One thing I love about Mike is his ability to continue to grow his knowledge and be transparent.

A great thing about science based exercise content that bs ego lifting and needless gatekeeping is dying down.

This is one reason I trust this guys advice. He's learned and grown since he started, his mind is open enough to change his opinion and he's honest enough to admit what he used to follow wasn't right.

We can all learn new things and grow, I thought I was pretty knowledgeable until I came across this channel and suffice it to say I didn't know half as much as I thought I did. Thank you Dr. Mike.

I have the greatest respect for anyone who, when faced with new knowledge, is willing to change their mind and be open about having done so.

Thank you for once again being a good role model, Dr. Mike!

For me most do exercises are the ones you enjoy the most, for example, i cant imagine training back without pull ups, chest without dips or legs without squat, for me those are must do exercises

There was a time where I didn't have access to barbells for about 6 months, and had to switch to leg press as my primary leg exercise. I was SHOCKED that my legs actually got quite a bit bigger, especially my quads! The CNS fatigue is far less with leg press, which allowed me to do 2 all out leg sessions a week, whereas before, I did 1 all out leg session and 1 lighter leg session each week. My glutes shrank a bit at first, all I had to do was add dumbbell RDLs and goblet squats to fix that.

I'm back to squatting again, but now only once per week, and I actually do lighter weight for higher reps, and do my heaviest leg work on the leg press. I do exactly 1 set of 5 reps of deadlifts each week, never any more.

I do think squats and deadlifts are highly advisable exercises to include in any routine, mostly because they are so applicable to our everyday lives. I "deadlift" stuff all the time, and practicing that form in the controlled environment of the gym ensures I don't injure myself in my everyday life. However, the CNS/fatigue ratio on those exercises is not optimal compared to other options, so especially as I age, I'm managing that aspect of it very carefully.

Mike, you're the man. Thanks for being humble amongst your wealth of knowledge and willingness to be wrong. This is why I watch you.

I love dr mike it’s just as important that scientist themselves are accepting to new information, regular people get confused with all the contradicting studies and it’s good to have such a reputable person admit when there’s new information

Maybe lateral raises? Shoulder pressing isn't amazing for mid delt, in facepulls they aren't the main muscle used and upright rows are controversial

Huhe respect to acknowledge something wrong from your past and address it, even if it was something not that big like in this case.

We stan a person who changes their mind when presented with compelling evidence and arguments contradictory to their original beliefs, especially when couched in an appropriate level of uncertainty

Genuinely changing your mind for the reasons of better science and more empathy? How do we have more people understand this and do it as well?
