‘Let's see if I go back’: Departing Russians unsure of return after mobilisation order

A day after President Vladimir Putin declared a partial mobilisation to fight the war in Ukraine, some Russian citizens landing in Serbia on a flight from Moscow on Thursday said they were not sure if they would return to the country for fear of being conscripted. Since the announcement, prices for one-way flights from Russia have skyrocketed and many have sold out completely.

You can see the fear in their eyes as they are being asked questions that they’re afraid to answer. Unsure of the consequences that await them if they return. Tragic depressing

The people with money are leaving, but it's in the poorer areas where they do not have a choice...

I’d like to go to Moscow now to get a sense of the sentiment there. But I’d probably be locked up if they went through my social media.

It is interesting to see how Putin is setting the stage and rationale for mobilization, as defense of the Russian Territorial rights and sovereignty. They attacked and illegally claimed Crimea and the Donbas territory, and then went on "special operation" to occupy whole of Ukraine by targeting Kiev. Then they didn't succeed and got whacked and had to retreat to the Donbas, and then change the rhethoric to say their original target was always Donbas occupation and they "had" succeeded. Then they got whacked again, and had to give up swathes of (originally Ukrainian land) territory they had illegally taken, and now claim this is an attack on the Russian motherland by NATO, hence the mobilization call up and also threat of use of nuclear weapons.

This is utter nonsense, and it's pretty plain and clear to all third parties, what this is all about. The invasion, special operation, and occupation of the Ukrainian land, was never about liberating "pro-russian" residents in those areas. It's all about geo-politics and ensuring Russia regains some of it's historical "glory" and also to put some distance between themselves and the European countries. The Europeans were never totally trusting of the Russians, however, it is plain and obvious, there was never an imminent threat of attack or war on Russia. There are too many economical problems the West and USA are facing, to even bother with thinking or planning to violate the territorial rights of Russia. The faux propaganda by the Russian Regime of Putin, that the West is always looking to violate the sovereignty of Russia is a bunch of politically driven crap.

There is food shortage, oil/energy shortage, pollution problems, in the whole world, and to even think that the world is actually still thinking of starting a war with Russia is simply ludicrous. What has transpired in Ukraine, is simply an unprovoked invasion of the sovereign land of Ukraine, no matter how Putin tries to position it.

Every Russian citizen leaving their country because of mobilization(even if they cant say it openly, understandable), are unknowingly contributing to the world peace. Such a noble reason to be afraid, thats bravery right there.

As they are fleeing Russia, I remember how dangerous and heartbreaking for the Ukrainians to leave their fathers, sons, brothers, husbands, grandparents, pets and homes...leaving behind your loved ones your beloved Ukraine and facing uncertainties in a foreign land is very painfully traumatized
