One adult took exception to another adult's characterization of his work. No punches were exchange. There wasn't even any yelling. Why is this a big deal?

Yeah, anyone would be annoyed by Maurice's rhetoric remarks. I mean, he even did that on day 1 with Wesley So's "not so smooth" wins. Carlsen's frustrated because he knew he could have played better. There was no need to rub it in his face. It's easy to sit by the sidelines, analyze a game using a chess engine and point out mistakes. What do you expect from these super GMs? They are human beings too, they are not chess machines. Just because they don't play according to what the chess engine suggests, doesn't mean they didn't play "smooth" lol.

What Magnus didn't know is that before Maurice predicted Grischuk, the three people in the studio had already predicted Magnus as the winner, so Maurice was probably just trying to make it seem more thrilling for the viewers. I doubt he really believed the words coming out of his own mouth.

Silly interview but typical of sport analyst. Throwing an opinion at a player to get a reaction. Yes maybe the games were intense with some awkward moments but that don't make them rough. This adjective insistence is imposing emotion on a tiered player. Ive seen it when a physical sports player is injured and they go for the jugular.

I think it was just a misunderstanding. Maurice said the game was not smooth because there was a material imbalance and a sacrifice for initiative. Magnus thought Maurice was saying he made a bunch of mistakes. Perhaps a better phrasing would have been asking if the game was 'difficult' or 'uncomfortable.'

These commentators, for some reason, have a false sense of air on them because the computer engines instantaneously show non-optimal moves. I heard GM Chirila even commented on one of Magnus move "I'm not impressed by this move". What??!! You are not impressed? Wow...sorry Chirilla if Magnus does not meet your expectations.

The players are under big stress during a blitz tournament. They are full of adrenaline during such an interview. You can't expect them to express them selves in perfect balance. An interview on a rest day is something else.

This interviewer was leading his question about Maurice to appear to be on Team Magnus. Shame on you, Sir! Your opening question was on the same level as Maurice’s. Why can’t we just admit that Magnus was just in a bad mood.

It's not the first time we've seen Carlsen annoyed and in a 'bad mood'. Why aren't other players acting up when confronted with attitude from commentators? He must have a beef with Ashley and his constant demand for higher quality performances from him and other elite players. It doesn't show Magnus in a good light though when he becomes hostile, no matter how justified he may feel.

It was just an interview, and yes he can ask him about his performance without being stronger than him, that's the point of an interview.
Maurice is entitled to his prediction, Magnus is acting like a 10 year old
