If I look at it I am fine, but if you told me to swim next to it, that is when my submechanophobia kicks in.

You guys should talk about the most common submerged animatronics, like the alligators at Rainforest Cafe. Those scare me because I always forget about them until I'm right next to them

“With divers swimming near it”
The very next sentence
“We don’t think anyone would dare swim alongside it”

I think character design is a HUGE part of what makes SOME of these scary for me. Movie props normally don't scare me that much as long as they aren't gigantic. The mine cart dragon and the Sword Dragon were cute. None of the movie props or that pirates ride really scared me, much less Davey Jones...

But then we got to the Kraken and I felt pretty scared, despite it not being underwater. I think the REASON it scares me is because it looks... "wrong". With most of these animatronics, we can easily tell what is meant to look cartoony and what's meant to look realistic.

The Krakren has a cartoony structure, but eerily realistic texturing and coloring, along with the glossy light details on it's "skin". it looks... wrong. Like its something else wearing the skin of an Octopus. The Gigantic eyes that look straight instead of how an actual Octopus' eyes would work ALSO work to make this thing look unnerving to me.
Its... not how an octopus looks. it almost looks "human" in a way, but not QUITE.

I don't know how to articulate it, the best way I can describe it is: It looks like something that SHOULDN'T exist. That SHOULDN'T be possible. But bringing it to life as an Animatronic kinda makes my brain go HAYWIRE because that's as close to real as it'll ever get. If it were ANY MORE articulated and lifelike, I think this thing would actually give me NIGHTMARES.

That's the SAME REASON I absolutely HATE the Angler Fish from the Finding Nemo ride and why I always felt uneasy with the Sea Serpent from 2000 leagues under the sea.

They are BUILT to be cartoony, but their painting and texturing make them look eerily realistic and believable, which make up the same effect. Granted, nowadays I have a way bigger appreciation for the Sea Serpents, but my point still stands that the combination of cartoony features with semi-realistic paintjobs are what I believe TRULY terrify me in some of these.

I'm actually shocked that no one's made a submechanophobia horror movie yet

I have submechanophobia myself, but these animatronics are hypnotizing to watch!! I love how much research you make to give us amazing videos ❤

As a person completely unbothered by submechanophobia, these videos still fascinate me!
Then again I have an irrational fear of balloons, so there's that.

Plesiosaurs aren’t dinosaurs, they’re reptiles that lived during the same time. 😔

In Myrtle Beach (hopefully I spelled thaf right) I went to the Pirate's Voyage show, and luckily we were invited to play a minigame of some sort where someone older than you or my parents in that situation would have to pull us in a boat across the huge water tank or whatever, while i was being pulled i saw him submerged in the tank underwater, I still got horrible chills to this very day, just imagine seeing a huge animatronic in the water you are currently in!

I love seeing these! I especially liked learning about the Davy Jones animatronic in Tennessee! There's a similar show in Knotts berry farms(California) where a sea serpent attacks the ship! It was gone for quite awhile, but they recently brought it back! I'd check it out! Love the video btw! ❤🦆

One of the only times an animatronic actually scared me was the Pirate Voyage Dave Jones in Myrtle Beach, I was eventually changed to look more child friendly but the one before was terrifying

I don't know if anyone else really cares about this aspect, but I've been wanting to say for a while how good of a narrator Will is. Like every time I hear his voice in these videos, it brings a smile to my face.

I'm not sure this fits with submechanophobia, but there was a Little House On The Prairie episode called the Lake Kezia Monster that scared the crap out of me when I was little (okay it still kinda does)
The part where the kids dress up as a sea monster and emerge out of the water is terrifying.
Might be worth a shout out in your videos!!

I’m glad you mentioned Davy Jones from Pirates Voyage. I saw the show in Myrtle Beach on two different vacations. The first time I was far away from the animatronic, and I wasn’t bothered by him. The second time I had a clear view of where he was hiding under the water. That sent chills down my spine, knowing he was right there waiting to activate. To make matters worse, they had painted him this time around with neon colors that glowed under black light. It made him look ridiculous rather than scary when he was above water, but it also made him impossible for me to ignore even submerged. My eyes kept darting to the brightly colored massive monstrosity lurking under the surface. This was my first definitive submechanophobia moment.
