This is so sad. In the next year I will be doing the van life and I'm 64 years old. I'm thinking more about safety issues now. Thank you for being so real about this to inform others to be careful. I will use extra care.

My husbands brother shot himself in the head with a shotgun at their mothers trailer. My mother in law asked us to get her purse from the house. I told my husband I'd walk in and grab it. He said no, it'd be fine. He assured me over and over. I went in with him and opened the front door. I saw something I wish I hadn't. I turned around, and my husband walked in further and just collapsed. His brothers body was removed but...as im sure you know the place wasn't able to be cleaned until the following morning, and it was....insane. i went from complete sadness to being sick to my stomach for a week straight.

It is NOT your mom's fault that she was duped by others. Yes, she shared, but the wrongdoing is on the part of those who tried to use her for their benefit.
I hate that your Mom lost her life, but van life did NOT kill your mother.
Predators are EVERYWHERE, and what happened to your mom with the woman who took advantage of her happens daily in sticks n bricks homes.
Yes, mental illness, the rising cost of living, etc. is unfortunate and as a result van life is becoming the reality for way too many people, especially women.
I live the vanlife lifestyle while traveling the country, and one thing is for sure and 2 things are for certain, my family knows my every move, every location. We are in constant contact, AND we use resources that ensure they have real-time information on my whereabouts. My husband, mom, daughters & friends call, text, & email me daily.
It sounds like no one in the family checked on your mother, and she didn't communicate with you all for whatever reason. This breaks my heart.
I believe you had good intentions with this video, but the blaming others & van life takes away from it.
There were ways to track your mother even though she pushed you all away due to her mental illness, etc.
Blaming others & her lifestyle doesn't absolve you all for not being proactive in knowing where, what & who your Mom was dealing with.
Heal, take responsibility for your actions and lack thereof!
