Big Boss aka Naked Snake, was one of the founding members of Cipher (later known as The Patriots) but left after disagreements with the group’s leader, Zero. The Patriots cloned him to preserve their icon, resulting in Solid Snake, Liquid Snake, and Solidus Snake. During the 80s one of Big Boss’s most trusted soldier would be turned into a body double for him, becoming known as Punished Snake/Venom Snake, resulting in Big Boss becoming two people. Venom Snake would be killed by Solid Snake and the real Big Boss would meet the same fate by Solid Snake. The Patriots preserved his body, keeping him trapped in a state where he was neither dead or alive, he was eventually freed from this by Ocelot, who had managed to destroy The Patriots. He would make peace with his last living son, Solid Snake before dying to FOXDIE in front of him on The Boss’s grave.

Big Boss never ruled the world or even wanted to, he simply cofounded what's known in MGSV as Cipher, simply to keep world peace. Cipher became the Patriots after Big Boss and EVA left because they didn't like Zero's "Le Enfants Terribles" project, the very project that led to Solid, Liquid, and Solidus' creation, and Zero got pissed.

This is what led to the Ground Zeroes incident- after Huey Emmerich got in touch with Cipher, XOF, Cipher's main gig, was sent to destroy Mother Base. They did, and Big Boss, Miller, and an unnamed medic, who were watching in an orbiting heli as their home crumbled, as well as Emmerich who was captured by XOF, were the only ones at Mother Base to survive. Knowing Cipher, XOF, and all world powers were after him, Big Boss had the medic hypnotised and physically modified to believe THEY were Big Boss. This Boss, also known as Venom Snake, is the person who appears as Big Boss in the first Metal Gear. The REAL Big Boss went on to be the one in Metal Gear 2.

Also, he only took care of 2 Metal Gears canonically- Metal Gear Peace Walker and Metal Gear ZEKE. If you consider Portable Ops canon, it's 3, and while the Shagohod isn't a Metal Gear, it IS a mobile nuclear weapon, so it's on similar terms.

Lastly, Solidus is his 3rd clone. Like I said Venom was hypnotised to believe they were Big Boss

During the events of MGSV the actual big boss is busy doing a coup in America with the patriots but venom snake is in Afghanistan and Africa doing ground missions there. The word gets spread around that big boss is literally in two places at once and is just straight up the greatest solider in the world because of it when I’m reality it’s two separate dudes.

Big Boss didn't start the patriots in the 90 's he started them right after Operation Snake eater with Zero, Paramedic, Sigind, Eva and Ocelot after he became disilusioned with the government and left FOX

Venom snake isn't a genetic clone, he's a phantom clone
He was actually a medic that followed snake almost everywhere he went and tend to his and others soldiers wounds when the mission was over, tbh he has amnesia and wasn't there to remember everything snake went through but does remember enough of what snake has been through in certain times to keep him thinking he's snake, ultimately keeping his brain from remembering who he was originally.

Venom was the medic and Big boss's friend in MGSV: ground zeros, he went through hypnotherapy and plastic surgery into believing he's big boss to throw the world off John's trail. I also don't understand why include psycho mantis in there too when Solid fought him in the shadow moses incident, where big boss was already dead. Plus, Solidus was the 3rd clone(George), AND he was the president of the United States before MGS2. Research a bit next time.

Woah, woah, woah, his name is _JOHN?_ Dude, that's what he told Revolver Ocelot out of mistrust, like "John Doe". Isnt his real name "Jack"? Like how The Boss refers to him as?
Edit: I looked it up, apparently, it IS John, as stated by the wiki, which cites MGS4 as the source. I have no idea why Big Boss would give his real name to Ocelot but have others call him "Jack" in MGS3.
