Hey man, need a info on the clips you import in AE. Do you cut the clips in AE or any other application and then import it to AE?

I've used this many times but I only use X since it will move the entire clip if I do X and Y and I see other people with X and Y tracking and not just X tracking and their entire clip won't move like mine. Do you know how to motion track without the whole clip moving if it isn't full scale?
