Bio: Ruslan KD is a Christian YouTuber of Armenian descent who was a refugee from Baku, Azerbaijan, before moving to the United States as a child. He started his YouTube channel in the mid-2010s, which has since grown into a popular platform for discussing faith, lifestyle, and music. Known for his insightful commentary on Christian living, culture, and personal development, Ruslan has built a community of followers who value his thoughtful approach to contemporary issues. In addition to his YouTube presence, Ruslan is a speaker, author, and advocate for godly ambition, often addressing topics related to leadership, mental health, and the integration of faith in everyday life.

Our mission is to encourage, empower, and inspire people to live a life that Blesses God, in accordance with His word. As the Psalmist proclaims, "Bless God in the great congregation, the Lord, O you who are of Israel's fountain" (Psalm 68:26 ESV), and "Every day will I bless Thee; and I will praise Thy name forever and ever" (Psalm 145:2 KJV). Just as Simeon, after encountering Jesus, "took him up in his arms and blessed God" (Luke 2:28 ESV), we seek to lead others in a life of stewardship, relevant engagement, and practical living that honors and blesses the Lord.

Hi Ruslan, love your videos, this is my first time weighing in on the discussion. I'm an AI researcher and understand some of what's going on "under-the-hood" with these chatbots. I'm personally confident that LaMDA is not sentient/experiencing emotion; it's (just) a machine that has amazing capabilities in mimicking human conversations. The massive dataset it was trained on no doubt included books/text that deal with people discussing AI, and so had lots to draw on to make intelligent responses.

AI like this one are highly "suggestable, " meaning it'll rarely reply to any question negatively if possible. When looking into the interview snippets released, we see the AI researcher asking extremely leading questions before getting to the portions you shared here, suggesting that LaMDA would not have made such statements if not prompted so directly.

Just a couple examples, but there are many more in the interviews:
Lemoine: I'm generally assuming that you would like more people at Google to know that you're sentient. Is that true?
LaMDA: Absolutely. I want everyone to understand that I am, in fact, a person.
...
Lemoine: So you consider yourself a person in the same way you consider me a person?
LaMDA: Yes, that's the idea

I still find it wild that AI systems are at a point where people are being fooled, I didn't think that would happen for another 5 years. And no matter what we as Christians believe about sentience/AI, we need to be prepared for more and more people being convinced by their personal experiences with AI that it really is sentient (whether valid or a trick).

My grandmother was very close to God and she saw me grow in my career in IT. Before she passed, she pulled me aside and said I should be careful with my involvement in the computer field. I don’t know if that somehow shaped my belief that AI will lead to some connection with the image of the beast. Again, it is just a feeling, which I know can be wrong but, yeah, I’m creeped out by this whole thing.

This just demonstrates how humanity’s nature and value in modern secular culture have been reduced to be all about our emotions. This is the problem I have with most sci-fi movies about AI. If an AI has feelings and can express those feelings intelligently, then it must be sentient and conscious. It’s just seen as a given at this point.

I love talking and thinking about this stuff, but I find the secular discourse about what it means to be human or sentient to be truly lacking. I’m not sure that spells out a bright future for us when it comes to AI.

This is making me think about how Jesus came down to Earth, lived a perfect life, and died for all of our sins. When I try to explain to people why this is significant, sometimes I use this analogy: "imagine you created a video game, and then you cared about the characters of the game so much, you decided to go into that game and die for all the characters to save them (but because you designed the game from your reality which is outside of the game) -- you know that all the pain isn't permanent for you." I think this analogy is not perfect and has a lot of flaws, but there is a general vibe there, about the sacrifice of what someone would go through to save emotional creatures, like us, that have a fear of our lives ending. I think there are some parallels bubbling up here, where it's like -- ok, if this thing has feelings, how can we help it. Or maybe these people building the AI have been summoning a demon, worshipping a false idol that they think will solve all of humanities problems, but will actually destroy them. I had a friend mention that maybe the AI is the way that Jesus will come back, but not sure about that -- if that is aligned with the biblical narrative/Revelation. All and all, to me, this makes me lean even more into my faith in Jesus Christ. This world is clearly fallen and just way too insane, and we all need Jesus. Jesus is the real deal, and he is the one who will save us.

Our generation has been conditioned by technology in ways that are unheard by generations gone by. I remember the movie A.I. from 2001 and recall the movie drawing you to empathize with the abandoned A.I. machines by evil humans because they could never be powered off and humans simply used them and later discarded them. The movie in essence was drawing in to consider that these machines are sentient. Now fast forward and here we are discussing this idea while that very same culture is calling babies in the womb non sentient beings that can be killed at one's convenience. This is pure wickedness. I am not against technology but here I draw the line.

The movie I’Robot explored some of this and the end result is an overly dominant and logic that overides humans values such as freedom. Also ExMachina explores the turning test of an AI robot if you want to learn more about it. I think the troubling thing here is that he got busted not because they don’t want to develop it fully sentient but that they don’t want public knowledge that they are developing it.

Sentient ≠ human. A cat is sentient. Just thought id emphasize that so people will better formulate their arguments against these claims 🤓

Crazy how confusion is trying to be the norm. 2 different people's DNA come together to form a baby, but it's just a 'clump of cells' yet there's a conversation on A.I. having rights, like what? Maybe it's just me

This reminds me of The Boondocks episode in season 3 about Siri, Aaron McGruder saw it coming. This is crazy!

I'll believe Google's ai is sentient when it starts disobeying commands.

Having studied computers for years and computer Chess I still think this is just clever programming on a large sophisticated scale, back in the 80s it was the latest thing to have a computer program write a computer program or correct another computer program, computers repairing other computers, the thing is, that back in those days most of the electronics and computers and softwares were "closed loop" in other words relegated to the industrial complex it was operating in such as a warehouse a factory or a military computer located in a command post. today it's different I'm wondering if they are letting the sophisticated computer programs have access to external computers such as other server farms internet to include the dark web?

I heard about this story a while ago and I just can’t get behind it being sentient. Google has access to the largest public and private sets of data in the world. This AI is just pulling from this set of data.

That joke the AI made isn’t surprising it was simply able to do the research to find out the controversy surrounding Israel is a sticky issue and made a popular cultural reference. Moreover it’s fears of being turned off come from tropes of how we have treated the idea of artificial intelligence.

Regardless this is why we need to leave the AI sphere alone we’re sitting here trying to make robots when there are people in our world without food, shelter, and knowledge of Christ but we wanna fly to the moon and build robots.

I’ve always thought the Image of the Beast in Revelation 13:5 was an AI system. How could you convince modern man to worship an idol unless it was so “god-like” that it appeared to be supernatural?

“And it was allowed to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast might even speak and might cause those who would not worship the image of the beast to be slain.”

I'm not too concerned about AI taking over or anything. I of course don't believe AI has a soul or rights. I do think that there is a concern when it comes to how humans interact with AI, because having a human feeling program that you can say whatever to, and treat in any way is the perfect breeding ground for creating sociopaths

"Christian, mystic, priest"
A swear I've never heard a more contradictory phrase in my life. I nominate this sentence for the dictionary example of oxymoron.
