Elvis Presley - I Think I'm Gonna Like It Here - From First Take to the Master

Показать описание
Whilst in most cases it was the actual RCA master of a particular song that was used within Elvis' movies but occasionally for a variety of reasons it was necessary to use an alternate take or a different version altogether. In the case of "I Think I'm Gonna Like It Here" from Elvis' 1963 Paramount movie "Fun In Acapulco" it was not just an alternate take but essentially a remake of the record version.
The RCA master was recorded on 22 January 1963 at Radio Recorders Studio B in Hollywood, and was the second song recorded during this first day of recordings for the movie but even after ten takes a suitable master had not been achieved and subsequently the decision was taken to manufacture a master recording from the complete takes. Three complete takes, five, seven and ten, had been recorded but with five discarded completely take ten would contribute the bulk of the master but the second to last line would be removed and replaced with that from take seven because of Elvis laughing towards the end of take ten.
It seems that although the 'record version' would be achieved from these first ten takes they had not achieved a version suitable for insertion into the movie and so it was decided that the track would be 'remade' during the following days recordings. Despite it being classed a remake, at a faster tempo and with additional vocals from 'The Amigo's" the take numbering continued on from the previous day. A further nine takes were recorded, four of which were complete takes but again it would require some splicing to achieve the movie master. The movie master was achieved by removing the intro from the final take, nineteen, and replacing it with that from eighteen although just for what reason seems unclear. However, there was also some further editing required before insertion into the movie with a whole verse removed.
As with all of these videos, to get the most out of the re-edited audio, I highly recommend you use ear /headphones and turn the volume up as much as you dare!
