My name is Bre. I took two years of small engine repair at the local college. When I left school, I fell into a wonderful job at a local small engine shop where I worked the counter for a couple years. In 2010 my husband and I opened up our own small engine shop in central Arkansas where I am able to work alongside my family and best friends. We saw over 2,000 pieces of small engine equipment every year, and answer 1,000's of small engine questions. We specialize in brands such as Briggs and Stratton, Kohler, Echo and Shindaiwa, but work everyday on MANY other brands like Stihl, Husqvarna, Honda, Craftsman, Remington, Red Max, Troy Bilt, Scag, Bad Boy, Hustler, World Lawn, Poulan, Mantis, Etc.. Hopefully, my experience I share, will save you Time, Money and Frustration in the future!

John Deere doesn't believe that farmers should have the right to repair their own tractors.

I won't touch a John Deere product ever again. I am just one man and I know that they don't care about me at all. They don't even care about their employees, why would they care about me?

Remember Ross Perot when he said "You here that giant sucking sound, that your jobs moving south" in regards to NAFTA.

I saw the other day a video on Japanese companies, if they are struggling, the CEO or other chiefs take a pay cut, if that doesn't work they resign, but they never get rid of the soldiers (as they called it) on the shop floor

I am a third generation farmer. John Deere has been our tractor. We were just about the only farmer's in our area for years that used John Deere. Most of them are out of farming and we grew with John Deere equipment. But no more. I told a John Deere representative at a show if farmers don't survive John Deere want either. He laughed. We have parted dealing with John Deere

Thank you Chickanic, I am a 67 year old woman. I own a John Deere D105. Now I have to see if my tractor is part of the recall. Thanks again.

Nothing screams QUALITY like when they replace traditionally metal parts with plastic!

My neighbor just restored a John Deere riding mower that I would estimate was built in the 1960’s or 70’s. It is built like a tank. I just bought a SCAG Liberty Z. It was the only mower I found that had serviceable hydros, had a fabricated deck, had Kawasaki power, had a great reputation, and was built by an American company in the U.S. Yes it cost me more, but I like to buy quality once instead of junk multiple times.

As a former John Deere C&CE dealer is the late 90s early 2000s they are a horrible company. When they started building the Sabre/Scotts line for Home Depot an executive vp stated at a national dealer meeting that "you will never see a John Deere branded product in Home Depot" Two years later at the same meeting the first question asked by a dealer was a quote of that statement and the same vp said "never is a very long time" At that time they were also pushing dealer consolidation and forcing smaller dealers to merge or go out of business. As a part of this, they told the oldest operating John Deere dealer, Lennon Implement in Woodburn Oregon that they could either sell to a large chain in the area or their contract would not be renewed. They also had a full time person dedicated to assisting dealers going out of business in the Pacific Northwest (3 states). In short they are a horrible company and I wish them the worst.

As a long time Farmer the only reason we paid the high price for green paint was, that John Deere was always quality equipment made in America, I might as well start buying Kubota.

It's disgusting! What's sad is that it isn't just John Deere, GM, and Ford have plants in Mexico. Name brands that we use to respect are manufacturing lower quality. Smart shoppers aren't buying them. I am sure there are many other companies also. Thank you for mentioning who owns these companies. We need shops like yours and mechanics to keep our older equipment and vehicles running. Thanks for your great service!

John Deere is ALSO putting the screws to American farmers who own Deere equipment, as only authorized factory service stations have the software needed to repair the equipment. They charge whatever they want. So sad! 😢

Bought my last John Deere in 2006. When parts & repair manuals became proprietary, I left the brand behind. Thanks for sharing the truth.

I know exactly what you're talking about, I couldn't believe what I seen when I was called from my neighbor. He's a dairy Farmer and 12th generation for him. His father and grandfather that I was raised around with hanging out growing up I probably spent more time there then home after the chores were done. What I'm saying is I've been raised riding on a big John Deere fender watching and helping when I could. Watching a 20 roll plow fitting the field and getting ready to plant the corn for the milking cows and bailing them square bails. And when that bail was roped and then kicked out the bailer to be stacked on the hay wagons. You better be ready for a 40-60lb bail flying at the wagon was a good work out and has fun really rewarding to me at least. But if there was rain and a chance of losing your hay they knew what to do and got it done. But the bails were twice as heavy good 90+ pounds flying at you and another guy. But they were die hard fans of John Deere so much they had those toy ones and I mean they were for display only, most of the ones my friends family bought the year old ones that were on display at the dealership. For the dealership had to have room for the new one coming out for the next year. And I mean some are so old but looks brand new cast iron models and 4 times bigger than the original metal Tonka trucks they had in the collection. John Deere went down fast when they were giving you a notification not to do any repairs because they were using the digital world stuff that's running the county and people right in the ground literally. Change the oils and hydraulic fluid or even a hydraulic hose. Think you are all set and the equipment won't start. So now you are thinking let me check everything out I just did thinking you might have accidently pulled out a wire you understand I'm sure. To call the dealer up and have someone show up with a laptop using if it was serious the whole tool truck showed up. Don't even see those little hand held toolbox 🧰. To watch the guy plug in the computer to the tractors CPU I believe that's what he called it. Reset the code and have specially made tools for other jobs. That the public can't buy and the software used on their computer. Forgive me for the long post for I love talking about the good memories. My neighbor closed down during the pandemic of COVID-19. He used to pay $1200 for 2 pickup of the milk twice a day early morning and I believe it was every 12 hours. To be told that they had to dump the milk out, health board there daily to witness it and had to put in a run off to either a gravel pit or to the field, or pay for them to haul it to a waste station. My friends father passed away and left the farm to him and his only grandson who came every summer vacation to stay on the farm and help. My friend tried to talk his son into not going back to doing it when he turned 18 and received a little over 12 million from his grandfather when he was 12. This young man went out to Wisconsin but all stainless steel tanks pipes everything to set up a brand new parlor one of them circle ones for free stall milking it's quite a setup top of the line and he doesn't even have insurance on his own truck and now new wife he's 29 now. His wife is a tiny young lady who milks right around 900 head alone 4 am until the milk truck shows up to get it. He's working down the road on his cousin's dairy farm milking for him. Oh that farm aid and these banks will give this kid all the money he needs for equipment etc it's ashame to see. I lost my best friend from kindergarten until he signed his half of the farm over to his son and turned to heroin drug addict. I can't stand it just kills me to run into him panhandling around the little towns around. It's ashame to see all the once most beautiful barns always painted and nice old farm houses with the wrap around porches abandoned old falling down heart breaking. Thank you for your time I'm 60 years old and been living alone for 32 years disabled and terminally ill. Not on no pity party just trying to pay taxes on one acre of land on $943 SSI once a month. God bless you and yours and I wish you the best. I just learned a year ago about YouTube and streaming free TV for I don't have electricity no more 7 years without. So having a cheap $25 dollar cellphone from the local dollar store and I found a cellphone magnifying plastic holder for it so it's like a little 10" TV and charge my phone in my truck sad don't want to wake up anymore no family I'm the last one left. So remember enjoy what you have and be thankful for that Upstate NY in the back woods. Never ever thought I'd be living life like this once again God bless and this is the only way I get to talk except for medical transportation and Drs

The biggest mistake I ever made is buying a john deere riding lawn mower. I mowed my yard, and the belt broke in two. I spent 70 bucks for a new belt, mowed my yard, and the second belt broke in two. Again, I bought a new belt, and so far it has not broken. I have not gotten it paid for, yet, but if the belt breaks again, I am selling it, and never buying another john deere product again.
