The world record for longest non stop flight was set by the Russian Tu-160 bomber!

The Russian supersonic bomber broke the world record for longest non-stop flight for this type of aircraft, said Lt. Gen. Sergey Kobylash, Commander of Russian Air Force Long-Range Aviation.

The two crew of Long-Range Aviation have set new records for distance and duration on the Tu-160 strategic Supersonic Missile-carrying bomber. Russian Air Force pilots were in the air for more than 25 hours, covering a distance of more than 20,000 kilometers, Kobylash said adding that no one had flown this type of aircraft for much longer.

The previous record was set in 2010 by the Tu-160 bomber, which had been airborne for 24 hours 24 minutes. According to the Ministry of Defense, two Tu-160s flew over neutral waters in the central part of the Arctic and Pacific Ocean as well as the Kara, Laptev, East Siberia, Chukchi and Barents Seas.

The missile-carrying bombers took off and landed at Engels airfield. The ministry added that the Tu-160 bomber was refueled in the air 3 times than the 6 IL-78 tankers.

The Tu-160 strategic missile-carrying bombers were accompanied by Su-35S fighter jets along with foreign aircraft along certain parts of their route, the defense ministry said. The flights of Russian bombers were carried out in strict compliance with international airspace rules.
