If the trimmed top portions are long enough I’ll put those in a small jar of water in a sunny window sill and they will sprout roots. I get double the amount of basil in almost a succession style harvest.

I am also buying basil from a supermarket - in February. First I repot it. Then, when it is long, I cut off the top - must me longer - and put them into water. They make roots so fast! That´s amazing! I am gifting them to friends, because I have enough. But I have wonderful big basil plants until October. :*

My last two basils I bought collapsed and died after I got them home . I know it's winter but I didn't expect a collapse both times. I was keeping them indoors as it's cold.

I do that too! I buy other fresh herbs too & propagate them

Hi, I see a lot of people recommending this. Are these individual plants picky about the growing conditions as personally I haven't had much success? Do you use particular soil?

Couldn't find them in pots in the supermarkets here 😢
