He's taking a pay cut because he's already set for life with generational money... people act like these athletes are going to miss meals or sum by not getting the max. Respect to Harden for understanding this and being confident enough in his investments to make this decision.

Love how this convo went from Harden, PJ and House to why Lebron needs to take less money and Brady is too nice of a human 🤣🤣🤣

ok so let's be real here, if Shannon never brought up Brady taking a pay cut, Skip wouldn't have brought up Lebron taking a pay cut 😂😂😂 we was so close to getting a segment without Lebron or Brady being mentioned lmao

I disagree with this take only becuz of their relationship, daryl morey has bent over backwards for harden on mutliple occasions …harden is just returning the loyalty which is some real sh!t to do

he will get that money on the back end. A lot of deals go down outside of those contracts. As agent 0 and many more have talked about before. He isnt just giving up 14mil.

James Harden essentially spent $16M on making his team better. I’m sure he’s going to be able to pay his bills on time still.

I think Shannon is right in that front offices shouldn’t expect players to take pay cuts but if James Harden wants to take a pay cut it’s his choice.

This why I’m not into the media lol. Had he took the max they would of slandered him. He took a pay cut and still got slandered. Long story short it’s a lose lose situation, might as well just do you

If i took a paycut id be grilling the guy who the money went to pick up when he has a bad performance 😂

The less money for Brady is one of the reasons he was able to have some better defenses to increase his championship chances

What Shannon missed is that according to the cap rules, you can exceed the cap to re-sign your own players then pay the tax. You cannot sign free agents if you are over the cap. It is a pretty simple rule. That is why Harden took the pay cut so they could offer those contracts to Tucker and House.

Shannon “James Harden can play for $5 if he plays like last year, Phila’ s not gonna win.” 😂😂.. did write those stuffs down before the show or do you come up with those phrases on the fly? 😂😂

Damn halfway through this segment I forgot they were even talking about Harden

I don't think Shannon took into account the total $68.6 is still more than $47M. The way Harden has played recently he's not going to get $21M after he's done with the $47M. This way works out for Harden. If he plays well he can opt out and get max. If he still plays at mediocre level he can opt in for way more than anyone would offer.

Harden doesn’t have the same value as he did 5 years ago. Wasn’t the most drastic cut.

But the media was killing Harden at the end of the year, saying he didn’t deserve the money he was making and how could Philly give him a Max Contract. Harden should get credit for taking less money and being team guy but Skip spinning this again.

"If Harden plays like he did last year they won't win a championship"

These guys all have enough money for 20 lifetimes. I totally understand taking a pay cut for a better shot at winning.

As a Sixers fan, I kinda think both Morey and Harden knew that the fans were getting their pitchforks ready, waiting for the news that Harden got a super-max. So it doesn’t really surprise me that Harden took less for less time. There would have been an outright revolt in Philly would Harden have gotten the max.

Look at this way. He secured a pretty high contract for contract 34 mill for next year considering his value was rapidly declining and may not have gotten a comparable offer elsewhere.
