I had no idea there was a whole thing on collectable cast irons. This was incredible. I would love to see more shopping trips like this one.

Now if that wasn't a nice relaxing as well as educational tour... thanks and keep them coming!

You nailed it about the thrift stores rarely having anything, antique stores being expensive, and corn pans being a pain to clean. When I can find the Wagner 1891 skillets at a reasonable price I make spatulas out of them. I don't use anything with historical value and those look nice with all the righting on the bottom. That helps to fund my cast iron addiction. BSR added Made in USA in late 1967, Lodge started in 1968. True Griswold should never have Made in USA on it because the Griswold family sold the company in 1957. McGraw Edison Inc. bought Griswold on March 29, 1957, and then sold it in December 1957 to the Randall Company who already owned Wagner. Made in USA was added after 1960 by the Randal Company. No I'm not that smart, I had to reference my notes. lol

Chris, you sure know your cast iron! I bought a nice 8" Wagner fry pan at a flea mkt a few years ago. The man at the table said it belonged to his friend who just walked away, so I kept coming back to get a price. After 2 hours the guy at the table said, I'll sell it to you for $8 and he'll have to be happy with that. I had no idea what it was worth, but it sounded good to me. Now I think his friend was not too happy when he finally returned. Oops. We have a glass-topped stove, not the best for cast iron, but I use it with care. One day I'd like to have a dutch oven with the kind of lid that will hold coals for baking outside. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
