Id imagine these countries offering these high payouts are aware of the likelihood of any of their athletes actually winning gold. Pretty sure if everyone who competed for them came home with gold all the time, the bag would be significantly smaller.

The US government should not be an employer. The government does not make goods nor should it be a player in the economy. We are so far away from what the Constitution directs that it's sad.

Nothing special, they already have an easy life since their job is just swimme and do nothing important to the country or the world. It's more important to me discuss the garbage workers salaries since they save lifes everyday.
