I started using Cubase 20 years ago. I've also tried FL, Ableton, Studio One, Protools and Bitwig over the years, but always came back to Cubase. I just feel at home with Cubase.

startet with reason 25 Years ago.. worked with logic, Cubase and Ableton over the Years and landed on Studio one 3 Years ago.. Very happy with this Decision..

Even though I already have a DAW I use, this is a very useful video. I use Fl (discovered it because my two favorite EDM artists use it), and I think I'm probably going to stick with it for as long as I can, as I'm only doing music as a hobby not as a job or career (not to mention I just like the interface).

I was also curious as to why people would use multiple DAWs, I've heard about people doing that but never understood why, so it's cool to know now

I used Reason from early 2001 to late 2005, then I switched to Cakewalk Sonar for a short time, then to Cubase SX3, and I've been a Cubase user ever since, Cubase Pro 13 right now. I have tried a few other DAWs out of curiosity. I absolutely didn't like FL Studio (the look and sound) and Sonar (it felt too cumbersome) and Pro Tools (suitable for recording studios). Logic was okay, but it didn't feel as good as Cubase Pro. I don't record live instruments, I work with midi and audio files (incl. loops) and virtual instruments, and my main genre is probably something from electronic non-dance music (ambient, chill out, synth pop) to something that resembles film music.

Browser and Piano Roll Updates in 12 locked me to Live. Just amazing stuff. For media scoring I use Cubase Pro which is second to none.

Depends on what you want to do right? Dan Worrall uses Reaper for mixing, many artists like Ableton for creativity. My teacher at college who has mixed many famous tracks you've heard of before uses Pro Tools but thats for more rock.

After years in FL studio I'm trying another DAW and what I'm definitely not missing is the messy FL workflow. FL allows lot of crazy configurations, but in most of cases I like to setup 1 mixer track = 1 instrument, what other DAWs have mostly by default. Reaper is cool and I think it's a nice deal, especially when there are tones of free and powerfull synths like Vital, EQs like Nova, compressors like kotelnikov etc.

I wonder what exactly which make Electronic Music difference than another genre to make they need to use different DAW solutions? One click Midi/note generators? Easy to use Sequencers? Built in features which save money instead purchasing 3rd party plugins ?

Philip how do you send audio or midi from Ableton or Bitwig to Cubase and vice versa ? Via drag/drop from/to desktop ? I bought Cubase Pro due to bad performance of Bitwig, when using heavy 3rd party plugins.

you have basically two types of daws: horizontal and vertical. Ableton is vertical first, horizontal second, cubase doesn't have vertical, same as reason, logic, etc..
vertical sequencing is more like a tracker, or drum machine, it's visually totally different, than horizontal, so the mindset will be different in them.

experimenting e.g. or in other words spontaneousl things, are (proven through science), likely to be more intuitive in vertical thinking, than horizontal.
stability (production result) however is more in the horizontal thinking than vertical.

i am a cubase user for years, but i feel still not very creative, and the visual element doesn;'t help (horizontal oriented: track lanes).
before DAWs where a thing, i used old school sequencers, that where more vertical oriented (matrix, where you had an on and off situation) this was still the best time for me, creatively.
so i am leaning towards trying out bitwig and live, to see how they align with my brain better... for that creative flow. but they aren't cheap, even if they offer trials (these er too limited in features to really test the waters)

I have used Logic since the E-Magic days. I now integrate Maschine and Reason in Logic for more creative options. I mainly write trance and techno but also love harder style rock and record live guitar so Logic is perfect for me. Never used Ableton as I have invested so much time in Logic but never say never!
