The story of Elijah, a Hebrew prophet in the Bible, is told in 1 Kings 17–19 and 2 Kings 1–2. Here are some highlights from his story:
Prophecy of drought: Elijah first appears in 1 Kings 17, where he predicts a drought as punishment for the evil deeds of the kings of Israel.
Fed by ravens: While hiding near the brook of Cherith, Elijah is fed by ravens.
Meeting with a widow: Elijah meets a widow in Zarephath, where he asks her for some water. She offers him a little flour and olive oil, but Elijah tells her that the jar of flour will not run out and the jug of oil will not go empty until the Lord sends rain.
Resurrection: Elijah's visit to the widow is followed by the death of her son. Elijah prays to the Lord, who restores the child to life.
Challenge to the prophets of Baal: Elijah challenges the prophets of Baal and Asherah to a contest to determine which god is the true God. Elijah prepares a sacrifice and calls on the Lord, who answers him. The worshippers of Baal prepare their sacrifice and call on Baal, but there is no answer.
