For some reason unbeknownst to me I had a total phobia with theory and just thought it was beyond me. Thankfully Brian completely changed that for me and I cant thank him enough. It gave me so much confidence when I realized I was actually capable and just needed a really good teacher. It so improved my guitar playing and enjoyment of the guitar and actually went even beyond that, I really do owe the guy.

Brian as I said again you are truly a great teacher. Your explanation is very straight forward and easy to understand. Thanks you 🙏

Thanks bro I've never understood why at age 5 I can hear a jingle on TV walk up to a piano and knock it out in a couple of minutes but when I went to guitar it was totally different world can't thank you enough you just crammed what would probably be 20 years worth of lessons Intuit 30-minute video you're awesome dude

Answered a lot of questions and cleared up my understanding of scales and chords and how they relate

Great job! I love the piano references. Seems like the piano might be easier to play.

I learned most of my guitar theory and music thoery here on the Tube. I have a excellent understanding of everything now, including the modes and even other modes from other diatonic scales like Harmonic Major etc. You have been one of my top 5 instructors man and I appreciate what you do. Thanks Brian!

Great Lesson, I always had trouble understanding the concept of "modes" on guitar. Piano makes it so much easier to see and understand and gave me my modes "aha" moment.

Extra likes for the YouTube thumbnail is a striking resemblence of me: left handed player with a dean v guitar all while being a part of the living dead with a spring cold.

Excellent video as always, thank you!

Hi Brian I was watching that “it’s not all roses vid” in segments, think a lot of your older subs like me enjoy those candid style vids, didn’t get to finish last one ☹️ Lol but looking forward to more

Loved this guitar/piano comparison .... I've only got a mini AKAI LPK25 (25 key) keyboard, but this lesson has given me plenty of projects to practice.

Brilliantly simple and useful AGAIN!
I just don’t understand why Brian isn’t THE most popular YouTube guitar instructor in the world because minute for minute his videos are the most actually USEFUL for someone attempting to LEARN this music theory, especially as it applies to guitar.

I’m not a total fanboy though.. imma have to subtract one star from this video because I had to watch it twice because I was so distracted by that ridiculously cool looking green guitar!
🤘😆🤘
(Yes, that’s really nothing but my own personal tastes!)

You're obviously very intelligent person, when i tune in i always learn something unique. You must have learned at an early age (piano lessons?)or you've got a degree or you studied hard to understand music. Ok what's my point? Nonereally, just throwing out some much deserved kudos. I really wish people would stop with all the theory arguments. Music came before theory. Theory is what it says, a theory about why music works. Yes you need theory it helps you understand and explain things musically, I'm personally fascinated by it but you don't need it you don't need too much of it and it can hamper your playing. It's kind of like alcohol or any other thing that can possibly give you an addiction. Common Sense and moderation will keep you sober. Thanks again Brian

Brian your teaching is so amazingly clear. I might offer one small detail that some viewers might be confused about. I discovered this when I try to converse about music theory with a classically trained pianist. We guitarists use the short hand of say "b3" to designate a minor third INTERVAL and so on.. But in his classical world he had never heard of this shorthand and only knows scales with their scale degrees only and ever expressed as 1 2 3 4 5 6 7. So to him to say "b3" means not an interval designation but an instruction to take the third degree note of the scale (which he knows by heart) and flatten it, which of course takes you out of the scale. I understand this wonderful shorthand on intervals and love it, but it may not be obvious to others which I quickly discovered. So "b" means minor or diminished, no additional symbol means major or perfect, # would mean augmented. It might be nice to add in when you are teaching what his wonderful shorthand involves.

Very helpful to me, it's making some things clearer, would like to get a printout of the 3-5-7 patterns diatonic you showed.
