CollabSheet MVP Launch – Native JavaFX Spreadsheet with Formula Support & PostgreSQL

Показать описание
This is a walkthrough of CollabSheet, a self-hosted spreadsheet engine I’ve been building as part of my ongoing dev lab work and product experimentation through my LLC.
CollabSheet is built to run locally, store its data in PostgreSQL, and give developers and small teams a spreadsheet experience that’s fast, flexible, and fully under their control. It’s still early — but it already supports importing, formulas, formatting, and CSV export — and there’s more to come.
🔹 Key Features (MVP):
🧮 Formula engine with 240+ Apache POI functions
🖥️ JavaFX-based spreadsheet UI
🔄 Toggle between formula and result view
📥📤 CSV import/export (formula-based or evaluated)
🎨 Per-cell formatting: bold, font, size, alignment, etc.
💾 PostgreSQL persistence for all sheets and cells
✅ Transaction-safe save/delete logic
🔹 Technical Summary:
CollabSheet is a lightweight spreadsheet engine built using JavaFX and Spring Boot, with both parts compiled to native executables using GraalVM. It stores all data in a PostgreSQL database and supports Excel-style formulas through Apache POI. The focus is on performance, simplicity, and a local-first experience — a great fit for developers, internal tools, or environments where staying off the cloud is preferred.
🔹 Project Purpose:
CollabSheet isn’t meant to replace Excel or Google Sheets — but it is an experiment in building something lean and custom that I fully understand and own. I wanted something fast, portable, and developer-friendly — and this is where the project starts.
🔹 MVP Testers Welcome!
