How The Race Was Won - Tour Down Under 2015

Ah—it’s road season again. At least in Australia. This year’s TdU made a good effort to include pretty much every aspect of racing—breaks, big sprints, climbs, crashes I didn’t talk about, even echelons. Just don’t cross-reference it to my picks for the race earlier in the week.

Hello dude

it sounds very, very stupid like question. Because for me me too, it was kinda.... admitted. But what absolutly forces the peloton to follow the pace that can be set by only one rider ?
I mean, why if only 1 rider is at the front and accelerates, everyone will follow him ? I rlly wanna know. Me personally, if I was at the front and I see, for exemple, 2 riders at the front very early in the ride, and than I am just behind them, and no one else of the peloton is taking their wheel, and than they ride to catch up the breakaway (for exemple, too much ppl in breakaway, bad for sprinters in flat stages). Imagine my team rides for overall and doesn't care about sprints, and no one of the 2 riders front of me and in the breakaway are dangerous for the overall.... Personally, I don't care, then I don't take the wheel, and like I was the lonely one in their wheel, the whole peloton wouldn't accelerate too ^^'

I rlly wanna know how can a lonely dude set the whole peloton pace, and what would happen if absolutly no one would take his wheel. Then, it really could happen than you can't set the pace. Am I wrong ?
