The area is the West Philippine Sea. Owned by the Philippines. It is 106 miles from the Philippines and is within the 200 miles exclusive economic zone of the Philippines. It is 500+ miles from china

FYI: The sierra madre, despite its decrepit state, is still a commissioned warship in active duty.

The Sierra Madre is still listed as an "active" ship (not retired).Any action by china against that ship will trigger the Mutual Defense Treaty and so china never touches that ship directly.

I heard a news from my country defence ministry Malaysia that they are installing long range radar on an Malaysian island nearby to specifically monitor Chinese movement after a recent incident when several Chinese military transport enter Malaysia airspace.

What the bigger Chinese naval boats are doing to the much smaller Philippine boats is that they will speed on to a short distance ahead of the slower Philippine ships, stop and will not intentionally swerve away from collision. They will then claim that the Philippine ships rammed them to justify their harassment.
