Where Are the 3 MYSTERY Wizarding Schools? - Harry Potter Theory

In the Goblet of Fire we are introduced to schools outside of Hogwarts for the first time. And while Hogwarts remains a top choice for many aspiring witches and wizards, the truth is that there exists a VAST world of magical education beyond the familiar walls of Hogwarts. There may not be as many options as say..Muggle schools..That much is obvious, but according to JK Rowling there are actually 11 major wizarding schools worldwide.

“The number of countries that have their own magical school is minuscule compared to those that do not. This is because the wizarding populations of most countries choose the option of home-schooling. Occasionally, too, the magical community in a given country is tiny or far-flung and correspondence courses have been found a more cost-effective means of educating the young.

“There are eleven long-established and prestigious wizarding schools worldwide, all of which are registered with the International Confederation of Wizards. Anyone wishing to know whether there is an approved magical school in their region should address an owl enquiry to the International Confederation of Wizards, Educational Office.”

During the primary Harry Potter books we learn about a couple of these schools like Durmtrang and Beauxbatons. And in the Fantastic Beasts series we learn a fair bit about a wizarding school in AMERICA named Ilvermorny.

But.. What about the other 7?

As of writing this, only EIGHT of the 11 major wizarding schools mentioned by Rowling have been confirmed, which leaves the door wide open for speculation. She first introduced the figure of ‘11’ schools back in 2016, but for reasons unknown has yet to name the 3 ‘mystery’ schools.

So, where ARE these 3 unidentified schools? What language do they speak? And what sort of magic do they specialize in?

Today we’re going to be discussing all of that AND MORE as we discuss the 11 major wizarding schools.

I also think that there are magical schools that no longer exist. While some, like Hogwarts, have lasted for centuries. Others may have even older histories, but have slowly lost importance. I imagine such schools were in Greece, Egypt, Persia, perhaps even Rome. But for whatever reasons attendance diminished and the schools ceased to function. And are now little more than interesting points in history.

I feel like the 11 major schools are well known, but I believe there's hundreds of other smaller schools there known but not apart of the major 11 list.

For me India and china could have a single school in Tibet, has it's own great myths and it borders both China and India, so not only could it use it's own mythical traditions but barrow from the other two or make a fusion of all three. Lastly Tibet is usually out of the way so great place to hide a magic school.

I think Egypt HAS to be one of them. Remember at the beginning of Prisoner/Azkaban, the Weasleys all go there to visit Bill for a part of the summer? There's got to be a sizeable Wizarding community there, which means there's probably a notable school of magic also.

India and China for sure. Indonesia, Nigeria, and Egypt all make sense but my vote is Egypt and would cater towards the population in the Middle East / North Africa

What if, instead of India or China, the school is located somewhere close to those countrys but harder to reach? Might i suggest that a school in that part of the world would be located somewhere high in the himalaya's on the Tibettan plateau. Propably easily accessable by magical means but hard to reach for mugles.

As a Indian I am glad you talk about India 😊
The Vedas, mystics, sages, ancient history are our pride❤️
I am pretty sure that wizarding school in India is located in Himalayas

I always liked the idea that the 3 schools not mentioned were not other schools like Hogwarts which focus on secondary education ages of 10-18, but rather acted like a upper educational institutions (like a university) for advanced magic training and specialties they wouldn't teach at the secondary level. However, if they were like Hogwarts we have to consider population bases as more people equals more magic user potential. So I think there would be a school in India and China as they are both big countries with lots of people.

To be honest, I think rather than 11, it's made more sense to be at least 14-16 registered Wizarding schools.
Since there are so many places in the world where there is a mythology surrounding magic.

Which I would go like this,

1. Hogwarts - United Kingdom and Ireland
2. Beauxbatons - France and Western Europe
3. Dermstrang - Scandinavia, Eastern and Northern Europe.
4. Ilvermorny - North America
5. Castelobruxo - South America
6. Uagadou - Africa
7. Mahotokoro - Japan
8. Koldovstoretz - Russia and Far East Europe
9. Chinese School
10. Indian School
11. Southeast Asian School (possible location: Thailand or Indonesia, or divide into three schools, one in Thailand, one in Indonesia, and one in Philippines)
12. Middle east School (possible location: Iraq or Iran)
13. Australian School (including Oceania countries)
14. Central American School (possible location: Mexico or Guatemala)

I love Harry Potter but not as much as I love your channel and now I’m just imagining an Australian wizard say the killing curse in a thick Australian accent.

I have always felt that there must be Wizarding Schools that aren't "elite", since not everyone could afford an elite education. Wizarding Public Schools. I'd be interested in THAT story...

Polynesia would also be a candidate as the religions share a common pantheon and tradions of shamanic worship that include new Zealand, Hawaii and Samoa

Brilliant work trying to figure out where the three unknown wizarding schools might be located. Hopefully, more details about them will be revealed someday.

I think Egypt, India and China makes sense, but Indonesia would be a preferable option for the Pacific school. Although, having a moving island around the Pacific would be a cool idea

I wish Rowling would make books based on the other schools

I love the Egypt idea, probably Alexandria, and the lost library.

I have a feeling that some time between the last Fantastic Beasts movie and a school or two had got to been destroyed in the first wizarding war.
