This week we have one of my favorite commuter vehicles - the Subaru Impreza RS. What a calm and sporty week with a fabulous compact hatchback.

I think you nailed it that this is a fun, refined commuter. People are trashing it for not being as fast as a WRX but I’d never consider a WRX for my 80 mile, round trip commute. I’d only get to enjoy the 5 second 0-60 for the 1 mile to the freeway and the rest of the drive I’d be burning premium fuel at 25 mpg. This car is similar fun & price to a Civic Sport Touring, Mazda 3 Premium or Elantra N-Line and you get real Subaru AWD as a trade off for leather/leatherette upholstery in the competition. I’m probably getting a Crosstrek but this is a compelling package for me as a fun, higher trim commuter.

Thank you for discussing the lack of a remote starter. I’ve watched many videos but no one else mentioned this. I live in a very snowy area, so I use my remote starter in my 2015 Impreza. Not a deal breaker, though, because Subaru AWD is so good.

Got an Impreza last month for my 17 year old son to drive. Dealer didnt have any RS models, but they did have an Oasis Pearl Blue in the Sport model with a lot of nice upgrades.
Even the 2.0 liter isn't that bad in sport mode. And I love the way it handles the road and steers. Great little car.

The only con I had when I bought my 2019 Impreza Sport manual was that when I was on a hill and put on cruise control it loose speed at a slow rate and then kick on high rev to try to keep up.

If what you said is true on the new RS with extra HP to help the cruise control stay at the speed, it will be pretty cool. I'm just sad that it doesn't come with manual anymore.

would a single exit serve this car better? yes, yes, single exit, but w/o a turbo, a single exit is lighter and should provide more "rumble" despite the ELH on the the FA/FB engine cars...something like the noble performance or Invidia N1 or the Fujitsubo Authorize RM...not that this nameless piece isn't nice; but possibly not necessary. 🤔

They've been using the app based remote start because eventually, they will force you to pay a subscription. Toyota has tried this recently, and other manufacturers seem to be on board. It's obnoxious.

Not economical, not a hybrid. This car is aimed towards northern climates or Subaru fans. I had to get a Corolla hybrid simply because of how efficient it is in comparison, I hate how Subaru has locked away the 2.5L to the top trim. The powertrain already feels lethargic with the CVT, it really should be a standard engine. All the modern hybrids have really good electric throttle response that makes n/a commuters feel dated now. If only Subaru offered a hybrid powertrain!

It's absolute garbage since it doesn't come in MT

It’s all fun & games until you slice or blow a tire in this $30K car that doesn’t even come with a spare. Mazda for the win.
