iOS 16.5.1 iPhone Battery Life / Battery Drain / Speed Test

iOS 16.5.1 was released June 21st 2023

This video was shot more than 36 hours after iOS 16.5.1 was installed, so it had some time to settle in. I have seen many comments that it takes about a week for battery performance to optimize itself after an iOS update. I have always been skeptical of this statement as I have never personally had bad battery life right after I update. If I restore and download backup from iCloud well then that is another story. So I decided to run the battery test 36 hours after I updated them this time. In that period they were left without power and then powered back to 100% to be
ready for the test to run.

Before the test was run the devices were set to 25% display brightness, auto brightness has been disabled, all devices use same settings, and are connected to the same access point.

How Geekbench works :

Geekbench 4 battery scores measure the battery life of a device when running processor-intensive applications. It provides a consistent workload to the device, and generates a Geekbench score by evaluating the amount of work that it is able to do while the battery is discharging and the amount of time it takes for the battery to discharge.

The battery benchmark can be run in Full Discharge mode, from 100% to 0% battery level, to provide a high level of confidence in a device's battery performance. The battery benchmark can also be run in Partial Discharge mode, for 3 hours. If the battery benchmark is stopped after 10 minutes, by the user or by the battery reaching 0%, then the result will be saved and can be uploaded. Battery benchmark scores gathered by any method except the Full Discharge mode provide a medium level of confidence in a device's battery performance, and longer tests are more reliable.

When comparing scores, remember that higher scores are better, and double the score indicates double the performance.

Hi and as promised I can write what results I got after updating to iOS 16.5.1:
* iPhone 11 Pro (battery health 77%):
- iOS 16.4: 3291 pts. and discharging time of 5:31 hrs.
- iOS 16.4.1: 3027 pts. and discharging time of 5:04 hrs. (I downgraded back to 16.4).
- iOS 16.5.1: 3134 pts. and discharge time of 5:15 hrs.

*iPhone SE 2020 (replaced battery on 100%):
- iOS 16.4: 2230 pts. and discharge time of 3:43 hrs.
- iOS 16.1.1: 2124 pts. and discharge time of 3:34 hrs. with original old battery on 77%
- iOS 16.5.1: 2400 pts. and discharge time of 4:00 hrs. and best so far.

So that's from me and everybody to decide for himself.👀

Great work! I like you videos.

I have an iPhone 11. I updated it 3 days ago based on this video. Just great for me. Battery life and performance are better, I would say it's the best update of iOS 16 for me. Hope iOS 17 will be even better, let's go!! (My phone is with 97% BH)

Apple doesn’t really care about older iPhones below iPhone 12 but they cause battery drain for newer models to encourage upgrades to the new one in a couple months

Thanks for your work! Please tell me when to expect tests for the iPhone 14 series?

Nice to see a battery improvement even on the old devices. Thanks for the video and will think about update on my 11 Pro to see!

P.S. As I started to get enormous battery drain on my 13 mini with iOS 16.3 even after had been reset, I'm thinking about that update to be sure it's software issue not hardware..

For anyone like me with an iPhone 12 pro who's having their battery absolutely battered by 16.5.1 I have downloaded 16.6 and my battery is pretty much as good as it used to be on 16.3 👍🏼 now to turn off updates and do a backup....

What's the time on iPhone 13? It's not in the video, nor the graphics. Thank you in advance.

Hello i have good idea. You should do collection for iPhone 14 / 14 Pro series. I think a lot of people will donate because many people have this iPhone including me. When everyone will send at least 1-2$ you will have money for that iPhone within one week. And do ongoing reports on the collection. because what you do, no one else does on YouTube. For me best channel ever since YouTube discovered 🎉
