The Top End's Kakadu National Park is home to spectacular waterfalls, shimmering billabongs, incredible wildlife, and an almost palpable sense of Indigenous spirit. Located about 170 kilometres east of Darwin and covering some 20,000 square kilometres, the park consists of six distinct landforms — woodlands, monsoon forests, hills and ridges, stone country, tidal flats, and mangroves. The Bininj/Mungguy (pronounced bining/moong-gooy) people have lived and cared for these lands for thousands of years, and are among the oldest living societies on earth.
In this episode of our online travel series, we bring you tips for five fabulous things to do in Kakadu. We start with a cruise on the Yellow Water billabong in the southern reaches of the park, and finish with a sunset climb to the top of Ubirr in the north east corner of this incredible part of Australia.
