This works in every aspect of life too. Usually nobody cares what a public facing office worker or a waiter or a nurse on an 8-12h shift wants and they adopt the "how dare you not offer impecable service to me?" attitude and then they're shocked when they get bad service, not thinking that those public workers are people too not automatic drones designed for perfect service.

I would do this with clients at the start of a project. Who are they and what matters to them. This works in all relationships.

Empathy.
A sociopath would find it to be a foreign concept and something completely mind boggling.

Intel and psychology, to inform deep empathy

This is just the definition of empathy. Empathy is not what you would feel if you were in somebody else's shoes. Empathy is understanding what that person feels in that moment. Is this really so revolutionary and new?

If you pay attention, you'll notice so much stems from... mental health! That's why it's so important

My grandmothers both used to say the same phrase to me as a kid "You can't know anyone else's heart until you've walked a mile in their shoes." which, in my mind, has always held this exact meaning of perspective as Andrew describes.

"Gather your intel, then try to understand what the target values. Then, formulate a diverse string of questions and answers as preparation, in an attempt to direct the 'narrative'." - Andrew Bustamante

"Now try and do that with the entire world." - CIA Director

Perspective is reality.
Perception is for teenagers and overgrown children who are legally adults.

I knew all this back in the day from studying cases. Too bad I met an FBI Agent who lacks this skill because he is narcissitic.

They have to teach empathy to CIA folks because the CIA prefers to recruit sociopaths.

Best work I was ever involved in was human terrain mapping of blue space, red space, green space for local geo political sentiment

You know what...did this my WHOLE life. Turns out I am the guilty one. For not being selfish. So... It's not about perspective it's always about some or the monster trying to kill you. One way or another.

This is really helpful and something I need to remember. There’s been some significant stressors in my life that impact all of the people closest to me. I think that I can have a much more meaningful impact on the situation if I get out of my own head, make those lists you talked about and alter my actions while keeping their perspectives in mind. Thank you! ❤
