There seems to be a new and wild discovery with this newer generation of telescopes almost every day. It’s an amazing time to be into astronomy.

Don't all the lost socks go to the other side of the sun, where we can't see them? So many socks are lost daily that there must be enough mass to form a small planet. A soft planet with the scent of water softener.

Thank you, Anton, for showing us another new discovery!

As this is the first Trojan planet discovered, Odysseus would be a proper name for it. Following Trojan planets could be named after the other soldiers in the Trojan Horse. That will last us a little while at least (30-40).

There is a certain comfort in the thought that there are other Earth-like systems going through the same development as our early system. There might be other conscious beings out there long after we are gone.

I think it would make sense to give Greek letter names to Trojan co-orbital planets, like α, β, γ

I think Helenus could be a cool name. He was a Trojan seer in the Illiad so you can kind of get the parallel of this Lagrange trojan potentially revealing the future of the exoplanet it orbits.

Thank you Anton for consistently posting new stuff daily!

I consider this yet another blow to the IAU definition of a planet.

Anton: L5 points are unstable. Earth has large rocks in its L5 point
Me: 😱☂️

Crazy that it's possible to detect these objects.

Could someone do a simulation with a Earth mass planet as a trojan to Jupiter? It would be interesting to see if a planet would be stable in this location or if the gravity drag of Saturn and the ice giants would destabilize that orbital position.

Wtf? I was pondering this last night when I was falling asleep. Could there be a system where 2 planets share an orbit opposite of each other? Very cool coincidence.

Wow! I was just wondering about this earlier today, if it's possible for two planets to form in the same orbit.

When I saw the image of the two planets I thought, "Wow, that reminds me of proto-Earth and Theia!" And then Anton said it too

5:45 I think "Modern Earth" is a lot less melty than that image.

5:57 "Now that we are a technologically advanced alien civilisation, we need a grand cosmic project."
"A Dyson Sphere!"
"No! Lets move some planets about so they look like human genitals when seen from Earth!"

Unexpected mention of Gor in a science video.

They should be named in the rough fashion of a map to complete the picture. If the Greek camp landed on L4 (Achaia) and the trojans on L5 (Troad) then points 3, 1, 0, and 2 draw a line across Epic greece. 3 is far away, either in Cyprus or Dodona.
Likewise, call L0 'Attica', and L5 Troy, and choose that to base whatever placenames are most famous that roughly fit on a map.
So the names should come out as 70b Doric, 70b Epirote, 70b Æolic, 70b Saronic, and in case of L3, the most distant, it might be Egyptian, Roman, Cypriot, or Phœnician depending on how you map it and what direction you choose.

Interesting to see Gor being shown as the sci-fi example. Gotta love that "creative world-building".

Since the current definition of planet includes dominating its orbit, then these can't be planets.

I visited Pico dos Dias observatory many times, I grew up in Itajubá and it was super close. I live in Canada now but still have memories from the place! What a small world, never thought I’d see a place from my childhood mentioned in any of the channels I follow. 3:12
