Rockstar has been around since the late 90s dropping some of the best games we're ever seen, but things have changed a lot in the last decade.

Through the power of YouTube you can actually see people go from Absolutely loving rockstar and gta5 to slowly getting bored with them to then slowly get frustrated with them

As a guy who grew up on Vice City, watching this really got me sad

You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become a villain...it seems the latter applies to Rockstar.

I have to say, when RDR2 first came out, I had few of my best gaming experiences ever.. To this day my favourite ever story experience is when you return from the island & the Song Unshaken plays while you ride back home, with the screen having a unique glow.. It's dark and you are going back to the people who are like your family.. But you think everytime, "Is everything going to be as it was before, or has something really changed", that moment was so well written. And When GTA 5 came out, it was one of my favourite games of all time, and to this day love playing the story mode. I grew up with GTA and Max Payne, and I also played Bully, LA Noire, Midnight Club & a little of Smugglers Run. Rockstar games used to make games you could immerse in, they were people who don't care about multiplayer, but about you sitting alone in your room and deeply immersing in a Video Game with amazing storytelling. Now they are doing exactly opposite of what they used to be.. Their OG fans will never forgive them for what they've done to their community, it's straight up insulting to everyone..

I could live with the Rockstar collection from 98-04

Its the old classic trope of becoming successful and resting on your laurels and becoming creativily stagnant. Its also apparent that rockstar isnt the same company they were in the ps2 era.

I remember Rockstar back in the PSone and Dreamcast era. I remember the GTA2 reviews and how they looked at those games as just another game from the bunch. And I rember seeing ads of Thrasher in the magazines. Really cool. How things have changed.

Back then their company name was legit and a guarantee for quality games.
Now they are basically like EPIC but with only focus on Grand Theft Auto 5.
That said, I wouldn't mind to see them fail hard eventually because people grew tired of the games.

Thrasher Skate and Destroy was one of my favorite games back on Playstation. And I had forgotten they did the Smugglers Run games. I had a lot of fun with those back in the day too

If we can just get a Midnight Club 3 or LA, Remastered, all offline, no microtransactions, that would be so good

The era of games was and will forever be greatest during the ps2/Xbox and ps3/360 runs. Companies took chances and actually seemed to care about the experience of gaming rather than how they could make more money with micro transactions. Yes I know there were micro transactions back then but not like today where ea games are basically unfinished and you have to buy stuff to make the games playable

So I guess we will never get Bully 2, if GTA 5 keeps making money.
Unless, they REALLY Want to

This is what I'm worried about in the gaming space. Micro transactions, games as a service, subscription services, etc... Result in companies not putting in the effort as creators anymore. The lowest common denominator being the main demographic with all kinds of excess monitization will end games as we know them. The future looks bleak.

I think one of the biggest differences is just Rockstar as a publisher actually taking interest in games.
Right now they're purely a gambling corporation, basically no better than Konami, I have zero confidence in GTA6 being any kind of videogame as we know it today.

Rockstar currently has NINE development teams. It seems they all work on the same game, rather than a game each.

I really miss when when a game was developed to be the best it could be, and werent designed to try to milk every cent out of the players. I never buy microtransactions but they have changed how games are made and imo games nowadays just arent as fun anymore. I miss games like halo 3 when you see someone with really cool armor, you know he is good at the game and worked hard for it, now you just buy the armor and it really takes away from the game

I think what happened was GTA Online blew up bigger than anticipated and they capitalized on it and stopped focusing attention on new games. They’ve all but abandoned Red Dead online and there’s no word at all on an RDR2 next gen update.

Fun bit of trivia for you. The Rockstar table tennis game was a byproduct of Rockstar rebuilding from scratch their physics engine. It wasn't on their product roadmap but the team creating the physics engine put it together to show off the new engine internally and the exec thought it was so good they stuck about 20 developers on it for a year and released it.

Rockstar used to be great. Unfortunately, they make more money from Shark cards than they would from smaller games and money is all they care about now.
