Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's regional matchmaking unites all different VR rating levels together for a fun ol' time. We finally have equality

combos used:
- waluigi / inkstriker / roller / paper glider
- king boo / teddy buggy / roller / paper glider (my best or main combo)
- kamek / teddy buggy / roller / paper glider (my 2am combo)

I prefer regional over worldwide. Chill vibes and character/part variety while still being challenging(NA). All I ever get now for Worldwide is full japanese lobbies with yoshis everywhere. The constant lag hits from their dragged items is mentally exhausting to deal with.

the reason people in regional lobbies (usually North America) range in VR so much is usually because since regional races are so much easier to win than worldwides, people do them a lot and farm VR. Definitely does not correlate to their skill. Additionally, people with really low VR are probably new to the game and are just choosing one of the online racing options. Regional is a melting pot of all of these so it's common to find yourself in lobbies with huge gaps in VR. However, it's important to remember VR is simply a number and has nothing to do with skill in most cases.

This is how I feel when I play online at a friends house and start with the 1000 point guest account. I gain like 50 points a race while all the high elo players lose like 30 since its proportional. I'll use some silly build like max mini turbo babies and nearly lap some people and eventually half the lobby is using my build because they think its meta

28:50 if you pay close attention, you will notice that Shortcat actually has 8 coins after just getting shocked. This is because using the coin item actually gives the 2 coins slightly delayed, so Shortcat actually got the 2 coins *after* getting shocked.

note on the non-functioning minimap on mario circuit: with mario kart 8 on the wii u, you can see each racer's placement on the gamepad screen, like in ds and 7, which makes the minimap a bit more usable on that track

I like playing Regional sometimes when I just want to gain some VR. Due to my relatively low VR I get a lot more VR because of the higher ranked players in the room.
