In Francis Ford Coppola's new movie Megalopolis, we have a conflict between Cesar, a genius artist who seeks to leap into a utopian, idealistic future, and his opposition, Mayor Franklyn Cicero, who remains committed to a regressive status quo, perpetuating greed, special interests, and partisan warfare.

The new trailer for Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis has garnered controversy, and Lionsgate have had to pull the trailer as it used fake quotes to review The Godfather, Apocalypse Now and Dracula.

This will make history. Either as a mind blowing experience or an insane ego trip

Everyone take it easy. The film is not out yet. Don't go in (if you go in at all) expecting to hate it. That's not the attitude of a responsible critic, but that of an emotionally driven child who thinks everything should be easy and non-challenging.

So let's just cool our jets and be excited for this historic film event. Anyone? Bueller?

Copolla’s advertising could backfire and become the cinematic equivalent to the old PC game Daikatana’s advertising, that ended up becoming a source of mockery for years.

Who made this trailer? I'm presuming coppola had a big hand in it. This was his long term pet project. This is second and third guessing and is just madness. But then again this is the world we live in now.

I would’ve preferred the Godfather 4 being made, but still plan on seeing this.

Of the American new wave directors who hit their peak in 70-75, even the ones with staying power ALL skidded out in the eighties. Even among those who managed to recover (Scorcese, Altman, Schrader, Friedkin), their output was never the same as in their heyday. This movie def strikes me more on the "Heaven's Gate" and (ahem) "One from the Heart" side of the ledger that the books and documentaries call out as the self-defeating ego trips that partly brought about the end of their era. "I'm an artist, and you're a corporate numbers man. Get off my set. I make the masterpieces with your boss' money." That was only going to fly as long as box office receipts were good, and audiences in the eighties were sick and tired of depressing cinema. I wonder if Megalopolis has a down ending?

The reports that Coppola was pretty heavily altered during major portions of shooting brings back thoughts of poor Hal Ashby burning out his mind or even the craziest days of Dennis Hopper. It would be a shame if the weed and wine produced something less than he could have in a clear-headed state. You'd like to think someone his age would have grown past that sort of thing. If Megalopolis is a debacle, it really does reinforce the worst elements of the media corporatocracy.

im sorry, but using john travolta's "gotti" while talking about gaslighting, when the whole dismissiveness towards his art boils down to uninspired people gaslighting themselves into disliking anything unique, because its "john travolta being crazy again", is a bit ironic. gotti and the fanatic are perfectly acted, thought out films. i'm not joking either. the undeserved, collective, youtubers agreement on finding them horrible is an inverse of people calling "elden ring" a masterpiece because a streamer and youtuber said so. just complete modern fabrication of consensus. the educated midwit directing the midwit's

Well in the Biden era, the worse the movie does, the more money Coppola will make.
