Project Mesha is a community-based programme that aims to improve the quality of life of landless and marginal farming households in four blocks of Muzzaffarpur district in Bihar by developing the potential of goat farming. Seventy per cent of landless households supplement their livelihood through goat rearing. This programme benefits the women who rear them and their animals. 3ie conducted a formative evaluation study in collaboration with the Aga Khan Foundation, the implementing organisation, to gain a contextual understanding of goat rearing, management practices and the associated demand and supply constraints that helped inform better implementation of the project. Priyanka Dubey will discuss major findings from the study and how it helped develop the output and outcome indicators that could be tracked at baseline, midline and endline, of an impact evaluation.

Speaker: Priyanka Dubey, research associate, 3ie
