Lyrics:

when I was young
if i just closed my eyes
then i could go anywhere
dream of any place
imagination set the pace
and my heart was happy there

what a shame that you came
round and told me
said my dreams can't come true
"don't be foolish
give up your wish
big things aren't for you"

and how you'd scold and chide me
forever criticize me
it took so long to see the truth

you were the one
who held me down and told me
i was heading nowhere
you said know your place
accept your fate and show good face
and be thankful that you're there

that was so long ago
when you owned me
i believed it was true
bend me shape me
build me break me
why was I your fool?
and now I'm so much stronger
i'm not yours any longer
i've got a message here for you

time for you to learn
it's my turn
I won't be held down any longer
i've waited all my life and finally it's here
it all begins
a chance to win
a dream that's been a lifetime
an endless vast uphill climb
the day i've waited for is drawing near

hey wait turn and show your face
i've got a lot to say
and you're not going anywhere
you lose; the time you ruled me's through
i'm in control I own my soul
and i'll never go back there

wasted years that I spent
never knowing
i was kept, i was used
never-ending
condescending
now i just refuse
i don't care what it costs me
i know I almost lost me
won't spend another day confused

you rose i fell
made my life hell
anything to crush my soul
anything to feel control
finally free i've come so far
finally see how sick you are
i spent my life degraded
but i won't leave here jaded
i'll start again and finally prove

time for you to learn
it's my turn
I won't be held down any longer
i've waited all my life and finally it's here
it all begins
a chance to win
a dream that's been a lifetime
an endless vast uphill climb
the day i've waited for is drawing near

This is one of those songs that you hear in the show and you're like "Heck yeah! Go team RWBY!" Then you hear it in the soundtrack and you're like "Oh man, these lyrics cut deep. How did I miss this?"

The soundtrack for this show gets better with each season. They put a lot of work into it and I fucking appreciate that.

People are saying this is sad, and I would say the beginning is, the end is downright aggressive. She isn't just upset at her father, she seems angry.

It was so cool hearing this play in the first match. But listening to it now and paying attention to the lyrics... it makes me feel really bad. I'm guessing this is about Weiss and her relationship with her father and/or Blake and Adam's. Looking back, it puts some things in perspective, like Weiss's attitude problem back in volume 1 and Blake's self esteem issues.

The little cringe Blake does when Reese lands on her tailbone just reminds us that this isn't a bitter fight, it's a competition, and essentially they're all technically on the same side
Nice touch

Damn...the amount she has improved with vocals since volume 1 is pretty crazy i really cant wait to hear what she has to offer in volume 4.

Damn, I'm such a sucker for a good buildup.

I can see this song being used to either describe Weiss' relationship with her father, or Blake's relationship with Adam. Either way both are trying to break free from an abusive relationship. They should totally bring this back when Blake has her rematch with Adam or when Weiss finally stands up to Papa Schnee.

I wish these songs were on the radio. They are so damn awesome!

There's a mistake in the lyrics. They say "It took me so long to see the truth." But I can hear the audio say "But now I think I know the truth."

So I suggested this song to be played for some theme activity in my Bridge class.

I don't regret it.

You wrote "it took so long to see the truth" but I think it should be "but now I think I know the truth" at 0:41

Man... I remember hearing this song for the first time in the episode
The part when Yang gets thrown and comes in for the final punch all screaming with excitement like .... So much fun and hype, what a great start to the Volume...

...What a great lie... ;~;

I know this song is about Weiss' relationship with her father, and you can also envision it relating to Blake's relationship with Adam, but I really like to imagine Emerald leaving Cinder's side and standing up to her, and this song being the theme for that

This song was main reason i waited for volume 3 soundtrack. Of course i waited it for epic songs, but this one kinda stood out.
And its here now. And its epic as heck.

So, who's in the "Weiss talking about her dad" crew and who's in the "Blake talking about Adam" camp?
