Apple Studio Display – 2 Years Later: Still Worth It?

My honest long-term review of Apple's Studio Display. With lacking features for the high price and potentially new Apple monitors around the corner, is this display worth it? In this video, I go over my long-term experience with the Apple Studio Display, how it's changed over 2 years, software improvements, how I've been using it, and compare it to my previous LG 5K Ultrawide monitor and other similar monitors. If you own this monitor, let me know your thoughts and I hope this video review helps. Enjoy!

I have 2 of these that I use everyday for Finance work and Video Editing. They are luscious! They look so great that I don't even notice them during working hours. I could relate with your video. Good job!

A13! Pricey for me tbh, but I have a friend who owns one and she is raving about its top-notch performance.

Thank you for the review! I've had the monitor for 3 months and feel about the same. I really spun my wheels about the studio display. Got it for work and use it really only for work (gamer PC is downstairs) and it has been wonderful, it replaced a 165Hz 3k 32 inch Asus and has been great. The camera is good enough for work, the sound is stellar (and no wires for speakers), and the pixel density is wonderful for what I spend most of my day doing, looking at the written word and/or code. In particular, I like how well my Apple stuff connects to it. My Asus monitor would regularly have issues with docking stations and forget the direct connect, so I got this one and it charges my Macbook Pro M1 (14) and I sometimes connect my tablet instead and that works as well. It has been great and I have stopped second guessing. I went with the VESA attachment instead of the base stand and haven't regretted that either.

Thank you for the excellent review! I've had mine for a little over a year now, and definitely love it. However, I find myself regretting to not fully do my homework on choosing between the standard display and the nano glass display. I accurately (in my own personal use case) opted for the tilt and height adjustment, but I wish I would've done my due diligence before choosing to go with the standard glass display without actually going to an Apple Store to check out the nano display and compare in person. Don't get me wrong, I love the clarity of the standard glass, but there are some reflections that I find distracting, as well as the standard glass being a total dust magnet! Still, I am very happy with it. So happy to come across your channel and this awesome review! You have a new subscriber in me! I look forward to viewing more of your content! Cheers!

Hi thanks for the video. I have a couple questions for you. I went to Best buy to take a look but was pretty much on my own since the sales help was non existent. The sound coming out was ok but too heavy in the bass dept. Will the typical Apple Universal equalizer in Music help to adjust this? I didn’t check when there. I noticed in the dock that there was Word, Excel and Power Point available. Is Sonoma offering free Word or is this just an enticement to get you try it then subscribe? Lastly, would I be able to connect a 7 Gen iPad to this display using my ipads lightning/USB C charging cable?

Hi Andrew, thanks for this useful tutorial. I use DaVinci Resolve for my video editing and I do a lot of colour grading too. Do you think this display is good enough for what I am doing?

hi there, , my simple question is. im writing this on a late 2014-imac, and running high sierra OS, im just looking to upgrade for editing pictures for photography..as 32-bit on sierra is good, but crashes on all the OS after, is this the system to bring me outta the dark-ages, and see the light?..many thanks in advance.

I connect my Mac and PC laptop through thunderbolt. It's a weird use case, but I didn't wanted another gaming monitor, so I just use the studio display with a HP Omen with a 3070 and plays Rocket League at 5K no problem. Love this monitor for my Mac-pc balance.

Missing 120hz is a dealbreaker, when all my apple devices I have have promotion already I can’t go back to ancient 60hz. Still seems like a great monitor otherwise. A13.

A-13. Thank you, for an excellent detailed long term review of the Apple "Studio Display". I agree 100 percent with your comments. In 2025, most likely, I will be buying Apple's 32-inch XDR display and then adding external speakers and web camera to go along with my first M-1/M-2/ or M-3 processor desktop computer (smile...smile).

I wanted to get the studio display but I am really an ultrawide girl since I use spreadsheets and have a lot of windows open all the time. Great update though!

Thanks for this video. I first looked for the new iMac and this Studio Display is next to the iMac and I see " oh the 27" looks not so big " to compare to the iMac. So I choose the Studio Display with the MacMini M2 Pro. And with the config of the MacMini with 16GB Ram and 515GB SSD it cost me less then the new iMac with the same config 🙂 And now I don't must buy every 10 years a new iMac ;-) I think the Studio Display works more then 10 years and in this config I only must buy a new MacMini when there's no updates more for the system. And the old MacMini maybe I can sold by eBay or other. For my 2013 iMac that still work perfect I get no updates since last year and that's makes me angry! A good working machine for recycling so Apple want 😞 For me the price is not too much, you must see the complete package 🙂 P.S. I bought a used MacMini M2 Pro for 900€ ( new 1549€ ) that was a good deal on eBay 🙂

they would need to upgrade this monitor with a higher refresh rate and even better display. I have one of these at work and it only helps for specific tasks. and I only use it since I use a Mac Studio
