Gatewood Cape Bivy Options | Lazy Gear Review | Revisiting The Modular Tarp

As requested, we revisit the Gatewood Cape, and its ability to be interchangeable with multiple bivy options.

i had been real curious about the MLD BB2 with a gatewood. looks like the borah bivy might be the best fitting option under it. would be great to see you revisit the gatewood with that set up undeneath.

I have a Gatewood with Nano too that I got this winter. Set it up in the man cave several times with different pitches. This will work well with my bivy system. Good to see you made a youtube on this option....hard to believe you can get the tarp and net at only 12+ oz.

Great video, I'm looking at the Gatewood Cape to put over an OR Helium Bivy, I think it'll be a good combo.

The sea to summit net wouldn’t prevent spiders and other crawlies from getting in, the bivy bag would only protect while your zipped up laying down in it, the mld bb2 is the best option but you can’t sit up in it, so finally the best option is the sixmoon NetTent that they designed to be used with the gatewood 🤷🏻‍♂️ ticks all the boxes including keeping out the ticks

The gatewood looks like it needs to have tie-out cord extensions added so the whole thing can be lifted higher so the bivy net gets lifted higher too, the bivy nylon bathtub would still protect from rain-ground splash?

Gatewood cape (105 x 66 max, 45 H 3D dimension setup) vs MLD tarp poncho (108 x 60/66 max 2D dimension)?
MLD if you want the lightest and can pay $344 for the 7 ounce Cuben.
Gatewood on sale at $108....Because even at the regular price of $135, it is still cheaper than the $189 MLD is charging you. These 2 brands make the largest, most useful and lightest Poncho only worthy option would be the "lesser" slightly smaller and cheaper Equinox Terrapin with extension (58 x 104, 9.9 oz, $80) which to me is not wide enough since I've experienced the cheap Chinese brand(s) from Amazon, which due to the smaller sizes (mine is 94 x 55) they are the same weight but too short / narrow for 'Regular' use, OK for emergency.

Would the mld bug bivy 2 fit if the attachment points were up higher?

Nice man, thx for this vid. I have the Gatewood Cape myself. This is making me consider leaving my serenity net tent at home and go for the nano net. You'd just have to be careful about campsite selection, and you should be good!

Why not just use the Serenity NetTent from Six Moon Designs...at 11 oz - 312 g Solo NetTent Sometimes the best solution is the simplest.

I have a sea to summit bug net and I was wondering how it would work... I have a bivvy without a net and with a full length pad I feel a bathtub floor is not needed. Thanks for the video!

I guess I found your review 2 years after the fact. Hope you're still going strong.
I had a bug Bivy made by a guy with a small operation. Pretty nice fully enclosed, you can use a single pole to help prop up the area of your head. It's just enough space to move your arms around inside and keep the netting off your face. I want a fully enclosed bivy because I don't necessarily want any snakes crawling in. I'm not sure how often that happens but I don't want to find out. Anyway I find that not being able to sit up without unzipping it actually turns out to be pretty annoying. I'd have carpal tunnel and have to wear braces otherwise my hands hurt pretty badly if I go to sleep without them on. I also have to adjust them like occasionally in doing that inside a bivy that is that small isn't easy especially when you have to try to get your hands out of the sleeping bag if that's where they are. So I just ordered the serenity net tent that's designed to go with this cape. I'm fine with the extra ounces so long as it does what I need it to.

I use the Six Moon Designs Serenity net tent(bug tent) that was made for it. Also, I have used the Serenity Net tent by itself.
