Ratan Tata, the former chairman of Tata Group, has took his last breath at the age of 86 in Mumbai.

Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran announced in a statement on late Wednesday.

"It is with a profound sense of loss that we bid farewell to Mr. Ratan Naval Tata, a truly uncommon leader whose immeasurable contributions have shaped not only the Tata Group but also the very fabric of our nation," he said.

Chandrasekaran further added, "With an unwavering commitment to excellence, integrity, and innovation, the Tata Group under his stewardship expanded its global footprint while always remaining true to its moral compass.”

Tata made the Tata Group a major player in the world market, during his tenure as a chairman from 1991 to 2012.

Tata Group bought famous high-profile global brands like Jaguar Land Rover, Corus Steel, and Tetley Tea, under his leadership.

He was also a renowned philanthropist of India. Through the Tata Trusts, he worked for many initiatives in education, healthcare, and rural development, impacting millions of people.

After sad news of his demise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to X(formerly Twitter), to extend his condolences.

He called Tata a "visionary business leader, a compassionate soul and an extraordinary human being."

Former Congress president and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi also paid tribute to Ratan Tata.
