Did I get scammed at the gas station in Indonesia?

Filling up the car with gas is always fun here in Sumatra. Sometimes the filling station is out of fuel and sometimes they switch the premium fuel for the lower quality stuff (so we've heard). Anyhow, I love figuring out these little challenges as we settle into our 6th month here in North Sumatra, Indonesia. Cheers everyone!

To get a bit technical, your car Honda BRV would run fine on Pertalite (RON 90) however it is advised to get Pertamax (RON 92) to keep the combustion and engine on optimal condition. The Pertalite is the "Lite" version of fuel in Indonesia where it is subsidized by the government that's why it has more car on the line because it's cheaper. No filming policy, is an ancient rule generally for mobile phones since it can pose hazard to ignitions remembering that you are in a highly combustible environment, not sure if that is the case though personally.

As a local the only thing that I can really advise you guys is that to get your bahasa Indonesia up to that decent level really really quickly and to slow down those negative thoughts and worries that you are prone to scams. Once your bahasa Indonesia is good enough then everything will open up a little and you guys will understand how things work. Just have fun.

If your car is a company car, you are allowed to refueling with Pertamax rather than Pertalite, Pertalite for only people who have low budget such as public transportation, online Taxi, etc

That guy did not scam you becaude in Indonesian in gas station you can not use cell phone and camera that is the regulation..and you can use pertalite if your car heve been registered before

Aboutthe phone, its not about the signal or cellular, it's about the battery, thats why we need to turn off the engine

Our government made pertalite just for people who their economy condition not so lucky like us,
People who blessed with good economy condition preferred always buy pertamax or above, so why the gas station man always ask barcode to match the data to make sure that their sells pertalite to right person

Sometimes phone catch fire like in airplane. You don't want that to happen in a gas station 😂. You just need to make sure the counter on pump machine starts from zero
