You can also use wooden dowel rods for the spin, that's what I use for most of my props, tho there is the possibility of it snapping if you actually hit something with it cus it's just wood

Sometimes I would use those gift wrapping paper tubes, but I recommend thicker, more sturdy tubes, for extra support you can stuff the tube with card board rods to make it more sturdy

I made a battle axe. I used a pvc pipe for the handle, and bamboo skewers for the blade part

as someone who works with PAPER, my spine is always at most four popsicle sticks hot glued on top of eachother

as a crafter myself, i personally just tale anyting that looks straight or durable, like popsicle sticks or bamboo chopsticks, and most of the time my swords turn out great.

As someone who used to make boffer weapons, i can add some insight.

Pvc pipe is probably the most versatile. Its durable, cheap, easy to work with, and has some heft to it if you prefer your prop weapons to have weight to them. I recommend reenforcing it with some packaging tape if you plan to spar with it, since pvc shatters when broken. 1/2 in for single-handed weapons, 3/4 in for two handed.

I also build a lot of stuff out of cardboard I'm building a minigun right now I don't use no type of PVC in my bills unless it's like a barrel what you should try is matchsticks or toothpicks cut a massage and you can make a good spine out of those and what makes a really good spine would be to actually make the sword and not just rush the sword

I've made a few swords and axes and I use bamboo as the spine. To keep it slim I cut the bamboo I to strips

Theres a food in malaysia called “Satay” which is grilled meat put on a stick. I normally buy those sticks in a shop and put a ton of it inside the katana

I used wood skewers that are like a quarter of a centimeter thick but it’s all I have

I use thick corner cardboard pieces for the spine. I like to try and use only cardboard, so it’s a fun solution. Those pieces are non-corrugated so they are very rigid
