Steel Series Aerox 9 Wireless Scroll-wheel Bounce-back Fix

In this video, I show how to fix a problem with the SteelSeries Aerox 9 Wireless mouse, which is a high-performance gaming mouse with a honeycomb design and 12 programmable buttons. The problem is that the scroll wheel sometimes reverses the direction of scrolling, making it frustrating to use. I demonstrate a simple solution that involves jiggling the scroll wheel side to side while rotating it one tick at a time. This method solved the issue for me and I hope that it will work for others as well. Hope you appreciate the short format to get right straight to the solution.

Pin the message.
I faced the same problem. I tried moving the wheel from side to side, it helped for a while, but eventually the problem returned. Eventually I got tired of it. I disassembled the mouse (unscrewed 4 bolts). The problem was that one small hair was stuck in the mechanism responsible for the mouse wheel. I took it out and the problem went away immediately.

If you have the same problem, I recommend repeating it.

This actually worked for me at least temporarily. I had this for maybe about a year before I had any problems. I think some debris just got stuck in this and this helps work it out.

The Fix for this issue is Isopropyl alcohol. I need to do it once every few days. The mouse has to come apart and the scroll wheel detached from the board. I spray 91% rubbing alcohol into the scroll encoder and flick the wheel a few times. Some compressed air afterwards to dry and its mint again. I think the nature of the swiss cheese mouse just accumulates junk inside the scroll wheels encoder that needs to be serviced. For anyone wondering, I have all my screws out and some replacement skates over the holes. Mouse fits back together nicely with no fasteners.

Wow, it really fixed the problem. This is my second Aerox 9 mouse, I had to change the first for exactly the same error but now I hope I have to never change it again.

Awesome, this didn't fix my Aerox 9 perfectly, but it is WAY better than it was before. Might need to do this a few more times, I'm guessing there's dust stuck causing the encoder to read it incorrectly, and shuffling side to side helps knock the dust out. Thanks!

This actually did help but only for a little bit. I don’t know if it’s the rubber wheel that is worn down which I think is weird now that I’ve spent all this time trying to fix it that they would have a rubber wheel that moves or can be worn down at all. I also don’t understand why they don’t just use gears Instead of having an axle made out of the same material at least it appears to be the same material that matchbox cars axles are made out of that are easily bent. I also wish I knew what the mechanism was. That is able to decide what the wheel is doing if there’s a laser looking at the wheel or if the wheel is actually rubbing up against something or spinning another little wheel Inside, I will say that I was very disappointed with steel series because I messaged them as soon as I started having an issue, it took them two weeks to get back to me and all they said was you need to send us 15 different photographs of your mouse so we can decide what is wrong with it and then 12 hours later they closed my case deciding that since I didn’t respond fast enough, they weren’t gonna help me which is really messed up. since they didn’t help me, I turned to YouTube and eventually found your video and it makes me even more upset because I’m not the only person that’s having this problem. There are thousands of us out there who spent 150 bucks on this stupid substandard mouse and steel series knows this which makes me even more upset that they were so nonchalant and rude to ask me to send photos of a mouse that they already know what the problem is. They should’ve just told me hey we know that this mouse has been having some issues until we take a look at your or decide what needs to be fixed. Here’s some troubleshooting tips that you can try to fix it on your own but instead, they’re shady. I will never buy their products again. They even suggested in their response to me that maybe I damaged it. This is after I told them in the email I sent them that I have three of their mice I used two for gaming and one for graphic design. It’s the graphic design one that’s broken, which is the most important one I have because I use it for work, so obviously I’m not doing anything rough or crazy with it now my gaming mice. Those are thrashed on because I am a rage gamer, and I throw shit around my room. I’m not ashamed to admit, especially to a bunch of strangers who I’ll never see. I just realized I’ve gotten a little out of handwriting a novel here but seriously any of you considering buying a mouse from steel series
The rival five gaming mouse, which is the first one I bought by them was only 40 or 50 bucks is extremely durable granted it only has six separate buttons but it works great so I was pretty pissed and I’m still pissed that I spent three times as much on the aerox 9 and it was broken 32 days later, which is super convenient that 30 days. I could’ve returned it for my money back but now I’m stuck and if any of you are still reading this another thing I found out while doing research to fix my mouse is that steel series is really resource heavy on your computer or at the very least on mine which is a brand new PC they say in the message that comes with the engine app that you need to have it load when you start your computer or you can’t use any of the options and that is exactly not true. You can just turn it on after your computer start, so that’s BS it’s because they’re using telemetry to track your information. The steel series app used a ton of Internet data. This is why I stopped using Nvidia control panel at least I started using this program called nvinstall so that I could remove all the telemetry. I’m so sick of companies treating us like their own personal advertisements. It’s gross I mean, do you know any millionaire gamers? I don’t except for the ones I see on YouTube and guess what none of them are using steel series and if they are, it’s because they get sponsored and get them for free and can throw them away after our one of use That’s another thing about the nine. It’s got 12 buttons on the side for your thumb but the way the mouse is shaped your hands are either too small to reach the buttons or they’re big enough to reach the buttons, but then that makes the mouse too small for your giant hands. It’s hard to grip and push the buttons without letting go of the other half of the mouth which is extremely counterintuitiveand makes the entire mouse pointless really which makes it a gimmick if you’re going to have that many buttons for your thumb there needs to be something under your thumb to hold it in place so you can leverage the buttons dammit I’m so mad right now I might just instead of buying another mouse get a 3-D printer and make my own damn mouse out of the parts from this stupid nine lol

Its crazy to me how a 150$ mouse can have problems like this. Though it seems that no Brand is safe. Similar Issues with Razer, Logitech etc.
