You couldn't get away from this song, it was everywhere. It was the number one song of 1975. It won the Grammy for record of the year. Their most famous and biggest hit and one of the most perfectly crafted pop songs ever

Hearing the studio cut, you’ll hear at the nd “Sedaka is back”. A shout out to Neil Sedaka who wrote this for them and was on a come back.

Hi, another one you will enjoy is Neil Sedaka's Laughter in the Rain. Sedaka wrote songs for Captain and Tenille and many others.

I was 10 in 1976 and remember this song playing endlessly. Love it.I believe Toni Tennille sang backup for Pink Floyd

Captain and Tennille reminds me of my childhood in the 70's. Listen to Muskrat Love next.

Hey Jamel! The 'Midnight Special' was a treasure. I'm so glad I grew up with it. They were Toni Tennille (pronounced like TEN-neal) and Daryl Dragon (R.I.P.), a married couple. They did divorce *years* later, but they were a close couple at this time. Fun fact: Neil Sedaka, a late 50s-early 60s pop star/songwriter, wrote this song. The success of this single brought a resurgence to his career in the mid 70's. And yes, this was definitely a *live* performance. ☮✌🏽 out.

I used to stay up late when I was 5, 6, and 7 from 1974-'76 watching the Midnight Special and Don Kirshner's Rock Concert; those artists made a huge impression on me. Yes, the beautiful Toni Tennille and talented Daryl Dragon.

She was like that in all her performances. So upbeat. A pleasure to watch. You couldn't turn the radio on without hearing this song.

Amazing how its just 3 people making all that music, so talented the Cap and Tennille playing multiple keys at once

Toni Tenille was an absolute gem! She reminds me of the love of my life, whom died suddenly of an heart attack at the age of 43, in 1996. Same smile, same enthusiasm and love of life. Always happy and no one she ever met wasn't immediately a friend. I still miss her every day. Thanks for the memories. I still have many of the Captain and Tennille albums.

I was 11 with 3 older sisters that loved this song, and bought several 45's of it. ..(I'd steal them just to stir up trouble). : )

The follow up song is just as good, and was also written by Neil Sedaka. It was Lonely Nights(Angel Face). Check it out!!
