Noonan's All-Billet 5.8L V10 DOHC Engine

One of our favorite shops to catch up with is Noonan Race Engineering. At the 2024 PRI Show, we caught up with Barry Pettit regarding Noonan's latest creation, the Noonan Billet V10 DOHC engine, a truly remarkable piece of engineering. This 5.8L naturally aspirated, full water-jacketed engine is designed to push the limits of performance in boutique supercars and hypercars.
The engine features top-of-the-line components from Noonan itself, as well as plenty of aftermarket suppliers. It's our Engine of the Week brought to you by @penngrade1motoroil830and @elringdasoriginal.

There's some guys have a YouTube channel out here that took a Ford V10 and put dual overhead cam heads on it built the entire thing in their garage and they already have it running sounding pretty good they put the engine in a Lincoln Continental I believe they are finalizing the rebuild.

I can't wait to see the guys at T1 Race Development put one of these to work in a turbo build!

I know what i'm gonna propose when O'l Cleeter asks his followers what engine he's putting in the next El Camino he buys😂

Simply splinting the piston crown section from its skirt to be operated via a (valvetrain-like) piston-train that makes the exhaust and intake strokes between the compression and power stocks - called D-cycle (differential-stroke cycle). This piston-train can retrofit the V10 to run like a 20-cylinder (actually >2.5 times more toque) engine. The D-cycle can also retrofit existing i5 to run better than 10 cylinders.

I’m patiently waiting for them to know make a larger coyote block with water jackets

I don't want to come off negative but it sounds like he wasn't exactly keened on the components. He seemed caught off guard. Head CFM? Block is 2bolt, 4bolt, 6bolt? There was no mention of it's size to other V10 either. His own words just put together for PRI..No dyno info, if it were done they would have a number knowing it would be asked. So it might not be anywhere near final stage or offered for sale product yet. V10's V12's is that exotic car area and price for who's car? That's high price market with some collabing from major company design and production with most V10's. With cutting edge AI to help. We all know a boosted or n/a engines are not built the same but specifically for one or the other so again it's not at a point they can sell it. If each engine is built to customer spec then ok. But building those (one of) engines from scratch are really expensive and babie til it's final stage. Then it's to the failure testing. That would have been mentioned. Are people going back to the 80's type car builds? Today's engine management is a must to keep this thing from granading on a missed shift or a guy that has more money than sense does the parking lot rev to the limiter and leave it there. I'm guessing this engine will easily be around $80k.

Anyone have any idea what such an engine would go for? I'm just guessing, but has to be at least $100k right?

Steve Morris has had a billet water jacketed Lamborghini engine for several years

Considering who this comes from you have to expect it to be a real performer. With buckets RPM is no problem and they are reliable. I had them in my Rover 2000 and I took that motor, with points ignition, normally in the first gears to 7, 200 stock. It did not care. It also had a gear system inside of the can gear that could adjust the cam timing by 1/2 degree as it streatched. The motor had on it two parts to lock the cam and crank into exact position do set the cam timing. Except for hydraulic springs, as in Formula 1, nothing revs higher and easier, more consistently than buckets with shims. They take time to set up but after that you can go a long time. Being billet, and water jacketed, it should be almost bullet proof and weldable as you see Steve Morris fix all the time on billet blocks and heads. Big advantage with high dollar blocks and heads.

I want to first see and hear it on the dyno, then racing. It should be a good endurance motor. Morris has proven this with good billet parts.

Youre getting a little better at interviewing. Actually listening to the person's answers and not having them repeat themselves lol

It’s probably gonna cost as much as a new Honda but I want one and I want it yesterday 👇🏽😂

Only question(s) missed - Intake and Exhaust Port Symmetry for 'Reverse' packaging ?
(can the same headers be used on the opposite block sides ? can the intake manifold be turned around for rear intake ? Blame Chevy LS Life ;) .... ).

Yea
I think a bigger will wet the pressure out, and allow it to normalize before going into stock exhaust

Weak evidence
Srt4 need swing 3” down pipe into stock exhaust
Granted 3” all the way would be best
