Don't Buy This Pit Boss Griddle

In this video, we look at my experience with the Pit Boss Sierra Griddle. Ultimately its non stick surface started to wear out and popular griddle items such as smash burgers, seared steaks, & bacon began to stick to the surface. Ultimately I have buyers regret & wish that I purchased the Blackstone griddle or any other griddle with either a cast iron or carbon steel surface. I have ended up settling on a cast iron pan for the time being. Please consider my points in this video before making a griddle purchase.

I bought this same griddle several months ago. Could not be happier. Ive cooked hibachi, burgers, steaks, bacon, sausage, sautéed veggies, pancakes and more. If you season it and take care of it each time, you have no problems. I use a silicone scraper set from amazon and i have no problems at all. No need for a metal scraper. Very happy with it. I have another pit boss portable 2 burner griddle at our lake place as well. I treat it right and it does well. I had a camp chef 3 burner cooktop with 2 burner griddle and it was great as well. I also had a blackstone but did not care for the surface as good. It done ok as well but would be my last choice between the 3 brands. Just my experience. To each his own. Ive used griddles for about 9 years now. Clean them after you use them and season with a lil oil. Use some oil or butter when cooking and you have no issues. My 2 cents. Happy cooking

I have same grill.
DONT season it. It's ceramic coated. Doesn't need it. Your food is sticking to OLD food left there not the grill itself. Gotta clean it better. Get it super hot and use some water along with a two sided sponge. The simple ones with a thin green scrubber side and yellow sponge side.
Toss the water on and as it's steaming use a wooden spatula or something else to scrub the grill with. Green side down. Water/steam/scrub it a bit. All of that will come right off and it'll look and work like it did on your first cook.
Unlike a black stone you want to keep this one spotless and like new after every time.
Takes a couple minutes to get it clean. Push all into grease box. Turn it off. Let it cool. Then do a final wipe with some wet paper towels before it's cold.

2 years and still works perfect sounds like user error.

I am a Pit Boss fan with my Pro Series 850 grill/smoker. Based on that, I ordered a Pit Boss griddle. However, based the YouTube reviews of the cooking service I was doubting my decision. After watching THIS, I cancelled my order and got a cast iron griddle. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

Dude u intentionally using that stupid spatula to ruin those burgers. If u use the proper tools it wouldn't happen.

You didn’t treat the grill right. Even nonstick pans need some seasoning over time. Use butter and oil like any griddle and your burgers and stuff wouldn’t stick like that. I have a pit boss ultimate griddle and nothing sticks on mine after over a year and a half. There is no way you would be able to clean a blackstone if you had trouble with a pit boss.

I’m a chef and was gonna buy a griddle for the house but way to much maintenance. Now I think I’ll just find a work style one. Polished steel.

Thanks for the great review details. I'm using my new HALO Elite Griddle. The founders were the head product designers at Blackstone before founding the company and put lots of thought into all the features and consumer-focused design.

With stainless steel and ceramic, you need to use a little oil (very little in most cases) or a similar kind of fat such as butter to prevent sticking. Ceramic itself is only non-stick in the beginning when its surface is perfect. After it wears a bit, the micro-abrasions allow food to stick. This is where hot oil before cooking and deglazing while still hot when done cooking is helpful.

Over time every non-PTEF surface gets micro scratches in them which causes food to stick. It happens to stainless steel, cast iron, etc. Cast iron and carbon steel essentially use oil to season the surface which creates a temporary non-stick surface. The problem with cast iron and carbon steel is the rust. The seasoning must be meticulously maintained or the surface will continually need to be sanded and prepped due to rusting. If you use a cast iron griddle often as in every week, it is a good option otherwise expect a rusty and sometimes rancid seasoning as the seasoned oil turns over time on the griddle.

IMO, I am still waiting for a quality marine grade stainless steel flat top to hit the market. I have zero interest in trying to essentially keep a cast iron skillet sitting outside clean and seasoned.

Everyone is in agreement....you are even a newbie to being a newbie. You have to follow seasoning and cleaning instructions to the letter for great results. Somewhere down the line, you either skipped over a process, or just decided that you knew more than the manufacturer. Sometimes, it IS "user error".

Funny, never ever had the issues you had.
I've had mine for over a year as well.

I, also, bought the Sierra from the recommendations from a couple of youtubers. Loved the idea of easy clean up. Already owned a 22" Blackstone Adventure, but wanted something a bit bigger and ease of maintenance. Vastly disappointed with the Sierra. It has never been easy to clean and food always sticks to it. So much so, that I just bought a Blackstone 28" XL to replace it.

i have a blackstone and it requires cleaning more than you know. with ceramic top as i found out w my ceramic pans they are only nonstick if you condition them after EVERY use. once you finish cleaning the ceramic you MUST oil the entire surface so it stays non stick. You will see a huge difference in ceramic if you simply oil it when done.. i simply wipe w an oil moistened paper towel.. thin as possible works miracles

When I first bought a griddle, I bought the electric blackstone griddle with the ceramic surface because I didn’t want to deal with propane or seasoning the griddle, and I also liked the idea of using it indoors year round. I live in the northeast, so winters can get long and brutal, and are not generally conducive to outdoor cooking. It doesn’t exactly stop me, but it’s also not fun.

Anyway, when I bought the electric griddle I loved it. The first few cooks were great. Then I noticed that if I cooked a lot of stuff at once, like a pound of bacon on a 22” griddle, the surface temp plummeted quickly. After a few months of use once or twice a week, the ceramic surface started to stain, and just wouldn’t come clean. Food started to stick as you see here, and it just became more trouble than it was worth.

I ended up getting a 36” blackstone with air fryer, which I’ve had for about 6 months, and I use it 2-3 times a week. Absolutely love it. Seasoning it is easy, and as long as you clean and oil it after each use, you don’t need to deal with rust issues. It does take 5-10 minutes to properly clean and oil it after using it, but that’s generally during the window of time where I’d be letting the meat rest anyway. I wish I’d purchased the carbon steel blackstone to start with.

Watch his intro and he attempts burgers, I knew this guy didn't know. 😂

Water and baking soda to clean it every 20-30 cooks. Just cause it’s ceramic doesn’t mean you never have to deep clean or maintain it dude.

Lolololololol. Oh man, hard to watch when you see temp issues and blames griddle. Secondly I've had many a griddle as I prefer over a gas bbq. Have that pit boss model two for over a year and 1) spray pan, oil, or butter.. butter helps check temp too. 2) water to glean the grill with a wooden scraper. Takes a few seconds. Wipe when done but still don't use soap unless you have to.

Anyways thanks for the satire

Sorry you had a bad experience. I have the same griddle -- PitBoss Sierra -- and have loved every minute of it.

I have the 2 burner I have the same problem on my none stick griddle top. I got it for Christmas a year and a half ago same problem. None stick griddle doesn't last long they are sending my second griddle top. I think the griddle tops are defected and it doesn't clean that easy. And I did season my second top so I'm getting my 3rd one
