When David the king of Israel was numbering the people, against God's implicit instructions, he paid a price and it cost him the lives of 70,000 of his prized soldiers. Afterwards, he went to King Araunah and told him he wished to purchase his threshing floor to set up an altar before the LORD. King Araunah offered to give it to him for free, but David said he would not offer sacrifices unto the LORD if it didn't cost him something. The land of the threshing floor of what would become the Temple Mount, and here we see the basis of service unto God in any dispensation. It has to cost you something. When God called Abram out of his father's house and told him to follow Him, not knowing where the LORD was leading him, it cost him something. When God called Moses to be His faithful servant, it cost him his entire upbringing and position as wealthy son of Pharaoh in Egypt. When God called any of the prophets, it cost them everything. When we get into the New Testament, Jesus says if you want to follow Me, come get you a cross, that's the price tag. Peter was told the cost of following the Lord would be his own death on a cross. When Saul met Jesus on the road to Damascus, and 'got into the ministry', it cost him everything including his eyesight to follow Jesus. Remember how Paul tells us three times to "follow him"? Ouch! Today we will pay a visit to your threshing floor, and see what following the Lord Jesus Christ has cost you.
