I was so upset by them removing Lady Googoo from the game and replacing her with Baby Rox that I actually sent a complaint email asking where Lady Googoo went and if she could come back. The reply I got was, “she went into the sun and will never come back.”

I remember being kind of relieved when I heard Moshi Monsters shut down because I hadn't been on the site in years at that point and I knew if I logged in my monster would be really sad and sick and I would feel bad. So when I heard it shut down I was like "oh good, abandoned monsters have been put out of their misery"

I remember back in primary school we had a competition where we had to give a speech about something important to us. A girl in reception class did hers about her Moshi Monsters figure collection, and it was so good she was invited to deliver it to the CEO of Moshi Monsters herself. She was Looked upon by everyone with godlike awe. Sorry, that's such a long and random comment, but I suddenly unlocked a memory.

When I was 8 years old, in 2010/2011, my class was given the task of writing a letter to a company of our choice. I have no idea why. But anyway, I wrote a letter to the CEO of Moshi Monsters/Mind Candy, Michael Acton Smith. I was the only person that year who got a reply — it was a handwritten greetings card thanking me for playing the game, and the envelope was full of so many stickers that I’m still getting through them today.

I loved playing Moshi Monsters as a kid, and it was very dear to my heart for this reason. I don’t know much about Michael as a person, but I would say he certainly understands how to make kids smile. The topic of the game’s decline is actually a pretty sad one for me, as a result!

I actually had my art published in a moshi monsters magazine twice! My friendship tree was the tallest thing ever! I was still getting friend requests till it shut down. I will miss it, my little Gaz is in a better place now. RIP Moshi Monsters 😞

I was OBSESSED with moshi monsters, to the point I could recognise each individual moshling purely from the noise it made. It had such a grip on me it was insane

I never thought of moshi monsters as a "social media for kids" but that really makes me feel thankful that I was exposed to simple and child friendly sites like this at a young age before more mature sites like twitter and instagram

This is my moment to shine. Not only was I OBSESSED with this game, I spent all my pocket money on the playing cards and figurines. And the DS game! I still own all of these including the literal rarest one (our school called the holographic ones 'rainbow shiny' because well... they were rainbow and shiny) -- I got the rainbow shiny iggy (after convincing my dad to buy it off ebay)

I used to show my dad my house and my moshlings. I even managed to get a 1 month membership at one point. After my dad passed away, some of my fondest memories are playing the DS game with him, trying to get him to play the ice-cream game, and showing him my card collection (which I still have!)

I also once got a note which said "u are cute" and I remember I started shaking because I also shared my account with my crush at the time and was also terrified because how did they know what I looked like?

Ahhh memories...

In primary school we lived and breathed moshi. Thought it was just a UK craze but apparently not 😅 only 18 myself but it's mad how young kids nowadays get into social media without going on virtual worlds beforehand

Hey! We are the the owners of the Moshi Wiki and of a project called Moshi Community, thanks for mentioning the part about the Rewritten owner. It took a toll on us mentally, so we branched out and made our own version to protect Moshi’s legacy. I am glad to see the darkness come to light and rest assured that Moshi is in safe hands now and we will do all we can to keep it archived.

Oh gosh... i loved moshi monsters back in 2012. It was the first place i went to vent about losing my first dog. I'm still devastated about losing all those pinboard messages 😭 I'll definitely be playing the rewritten asap, no other game has come close to that fucking ice cream minigame

Fun fact:
I was OBSESSED with Ecto the Moshling as a kid. I would draw him constantly and I even made my own Ecto OCs I even made my own felt plush because they never sold an Ecto plush. I bought so many of the blind bags just to get the little figure of him. I still have it to this day. And honestly I have no idea why I hyper fixated on it like that lol

Okay, between how this game was created because the creator noticed how much children like nurturing things and how they persist now as a mindfulness and sleep app... This may be one of the most genuinely wholesome and not evil video game corporations out there!

Seriously. When hearing about how the creator noticed how kids like nurturing things, I couldn't help but let out an audible 'Awwww!' Because you know something? They're right! A lot of people see kids as these hellish, uncaring creatures, but honestly kids are inclined first and foremost to caring about things, and so creating a game geared towards that caring nature is a really nice thing to do! It's very good that this game was created on the foundation of having kids nurturing things over any other kind of gameplay loop or philosophy they could have founded it off of.

I remember having 2 accounts for every monster, because I wanted a “girl “ and a “boy” version of each, even with the luvli and poppet which were seen as the feminine girly ones.

I’m so surprised she didn’t mention Poptropica. That was an insane part of my childhood

I loved the aesthetic and art style of this game as a kid. I was so mad when the overworld models changed to match the designs of the movie that I would spend hours refusing to leave my house just to keep looking at the old designs

Man, Moshi monsters was a repressed memory of my childhood. I liked it, but stopped playing bc so many things were locked behind membership

Oh yeah the developers/mods said that because Moshi Monsters was meant to be for kids, having a discord server made it dangerous for them when it came to interacting with strangers and therefore had to be shutdown. However, the server was very friendly and active with many events and fun quizzes being uploaded by the staff from my experience! I understand their concerns for sure though
